A comedic take on contemporary parenting Motherload
is created collectively by theatre artists
Sasa Brown, Emelia Symington Fedy, Jody Kay Marklew, Sonja Bennett
and Juno Rinaldi.
Placing a dark lens on a new generation of moms we are taking our candid conversations from playgrounds into the public format. Using the strength of simple storytelling we talk pointedly about postpartum depression, shameful personal regressions and the hilarity that goes along with joining the world’s biggest club.
Premiering
at The Cultch in January 2015 this show has the potential for great success. The snag is- BC
Arts Council and The City of Vancouver don’t fund new collectives. Because our funding opportunities are severly limited across Canada we have to rely on donor and sponsorship support.
That means you!
Creation begins December 9th
2013.
While we are all committed to working for free for the first two week creation period we do need to raise money to pay for childcare for our 8 children and a rehearsal space.
*We
need to raise $4900 by
December 1st
2013 or this project will not move into phase 2 of creation.
We need your help!
Playing
on the edge of bittersweet, the show is never too dark to bare, and
there is just enough light to see that we are not alone. Through sharing our metamorphisis into motherhood we hope to lighten the collective load.
Please
pass us on! Through facebook, email, twitter and word-of-mouth, you can help
us reach our goal.
This is a show for everyone. Possibly because it’s hilarious and charged with real life stories and
stakes but most likely it’s because we all have a mother.
We
will work for free but we need someone to watch the kids!
We
are asking, relying and hoping that you will help us carry Motherload
into a successful future.
Help us pay
for nannies so we can make a show!
Love
the Motherload
team,
Sasa,
Emelia, Juno, Jody-Kay, Sonja and (Max, Arthur, Scout, Everett, Jake,
Jack, Jade and newborn August)
