Our story

We are a yoga wear company founded by two knitwear designers and yoga lovers!! Living in New York City we were surrounded by black yoga pants in our classes (and on the street). We thought why are so many of us (yes we do it too!) wearing all black, petroleum (these things will be around way after we stop wearing them to class) and even see through pants! We realized we needed better options. We wanted colorful fashionable pants that would be great for yoga AND carry us into the rest of our day. We thought wouldn’t it be great to not only make amazing clothes but do it with yogic values to help our community. So we created Mudita Design. We have brought forth a collection that fits great, is made in an environmentally conscious way, gives back to the community, and has a unique flare!

The reception received with our first line of samples has been fantastic.  Women love the fabric and the prints. We think MUDITA is moving in the right direction and are excited to expand into more styles and colors. This is where we need your help!

WHY SUPPORT MUDITA?

We think the reasons are pretty good:

• Our collection is soft & durable. We found women wanted pants that were comfortable, had flattering colors and held their shape after many washes. We made that happen plus threw in some rocking prints!! 

• We have beautiful colors and designs that are contouring and flattering on the body. After developing many print options we conducted market research with a wide range of women listening to their feedback and desires. Creating what we are presenting today and many more to come after this campaign is successful!!

• We've created our dream fabric in beautiful colors by working closely with a talented mill. This cotton blend, four-way stretch knit, is breathable, not see through and gives amazing support . Even if you don’t have the smoothest thighs in the world...these pants will make you look like you do!

• All our pants feature a dynamite construction that sits securely on the body and does not ride-down when you become active. They have strong, athletic seams and a gusset for extra comfort. We used our fashion design skills to create a perfect fit so you could focus on the job at hand. 

• Giving back to the community is a huge part of our practice. Staying with the essence of Mudita (Def: cultivating joy through other’s well being) we’ve partnered with Yoga Foster, a NYC based non-profit teaching free yoga classes in public schools. Every pant sold directly contributes to a free class for kids. 

  • Mudita is DESIGNED and MANUFACTURED with pride in the USA.It’s been wonderful to work with factories near our design studio, ensuring quality is up to standards and getting to know those who help Mudita come to life.

In the 1960’s, 95% of the clothing we wore was made here in the U.S.A. As of 2011, it is down to a measly 3%. We'd love to see that statistic reversed and experience the good it would do for us as a nation. The more pants we get the  privilege of making the more jobs we create. 

            


• We are offering clothing that reflects yogic ideals. Using natural fiber fabric & water based dyes in our printing. Our seed tags even sprout wildflowers! 

WHY DID WE START MUDITA?

Five years back Rachel left a finance career in New York City to follow a passion that she could not shake, fashion design.She re-enrolled in university, studying in New York City and Milan. It was here the two partners had the pleasure of meeting. Sara came to fashion design from a background of teaching yoga and dance. She was a self taught seamstress and a lover of bright colors. Both shared a combined love for yoga, knitwear design and the dream of starting a business that gave back to the community.

Being business owners had been on both our minds for many years however we had to first grow as designers. After graduation, we both worked in the fast-paced fashion world of New York City, taking in its endless lessons and inspirations from truly talented designers. We both reached a point where we felt confidant in our skills and ready to produce an alternative to the ever-present black yoga pant in a way that was good for the world. And now here we are!

***WHERE WE ARE NOW***

 We have created our first round of production and are receiving raving reviews! Besides a few bumps in the road, we’ve had great success. Securing fabric and a high quality manufacturer is a challenging task! In order to offer a competitive price you need to order in large quantities. We have learned along the way and found a fantastic team to help us produce the high quality garments we were looking for. The sewers and printers are set and our mill is ready to start knitting. Now we need YOUR support to bring MUDITA to life by helping us to secure our bulk order of fabric and production of pants. We want to get these pants in your hands as soon as possible!

Risks and challenges?

Trust us, we ran into every road bump possible to make our first round of pants. We learned and made adjustments where needed. The great thing about problems is you get to come up with solutions. Creativity isn't just for designing! One of the biggest challenges for us has been securing our sourcing and being able to meet the fabric minimums. With the money we raise through Indiegogo we will be able to meet these minimums and work with high quality factories creating our garments at affordable prices.

With our factories dialed, the fabric mill ready to start knitting and all the patterns perfected......We are ready to go!
