About myself and my dream
Hi! I am Fatima- a passionate aerospace engineering student and an amateur pilot. Travelling to over 40 countries, playing guitar in a rock band, learning kungfu from Shaolin monks in China- these are some things that I have done in my life. I strive for perfection in both art and science and like to take on difficult challenges. When I was in my eighth grade, my physics teacher, aware of my fondness of flying and aspirations around the same, ridiculed me by calling me a "low-flyer". I cried and left the classroom and never came back. Today, I am about to graduate from the best university in aerospace engineering in Europe and am planning to work with big organisations around the world with my idea of commercializing nanosatellites. My dream is to make space and its benefits accessible to anyone, kind of like we use mobile phones today. Maybe some day you would have your own personal satellite in space? But for that I need to take one step at a time. To start with, I have been selected to present my scientific paper at the International Astronautical Conference 2013 where I will get to explain my novel business model for nanosat constellations to the scientific community and gather valuable ideas and contacts to take it further. My initiative reaching success will make services of satellites much more agile and cheap in future. We will be able to respond to natural calamities better and save a lot more lives. We will be able to monitor our houses and cars on our mobile phones. The list of benefits is endless!
Where do you come in the picture and what I have for you!
Like it or not, engineering is still a man's world. Studying aerospace engineering has never been a bed of roses for me and when I picture myself telling the biggest minds in space technology around the globe about how to make things better, I would love to be able to see the faces of my best friends Dyan and Avi in the audience. In such a pivotal moment of my life, their presence would greatly support and encourage me. But since they are students, in order to take them with me I would have to ask for your support. They have stuck with me through thick and thin and helped me when I was down or needed motivation.
In Beijing, China I will be also writing an exciting blog in 3 languages letting you know about all exciting updates about the conference and our stay there!
I have come up with a wide range of perks that includes authentic souvenirs from China, Q&A sessions over skype and the best of all, having your name mentioned during my presentation. Don't forget to check the perks section for more details! More importantly, the money you pay will be actually put to use in the following aspects:
$2700 for airtickets
$1200 for lodging
$1200 for other necessary expenses for e.g. visa, food and tickets to the conference.
$5100 in total
We have been able to raise $700 till now but will still need your help for funding the remaining $4400.
If you like my project and initiative, I would be very grateful to you if you also tell your friends and other people you know about it.
