Short Summary

• DIVAS for Social Justice encourage youth in underserved communities to use technology for social change through digital media, robotics and computer programming. For the last six years the organization has successfully provided free and sliding scale programming for youth to bridge the digital divide with a holistic approach and be change agents in their communities
• The My Sister’s Keeper App will provide a platform for a global community of women and girls to receive loving affirmations about the questions young girls ask themselves growing up. Not everyone has a positive maternal confident to help answer their questions and DIVAS wants to help fill that void by creating a free mobile app where a young girl can ask a question about body image, relationships or just know someone loves them. The youth of the organization have been surveying their friends and providing the questions that all girls ask themselves and the organization has rallied a collective of health professionals to review content.
• Your contribution will not only provide girls in underserved communities the ability to learn and master digital media and coding but it will help us launch a product that could be comforting to a girl or young woman that needs advice and has no one to turn to. Our youth are turning to social media for acceptance. While we believe technology will never replace the importance of a human connection, it is important to provide an app that counters all the negative stereotypes that black and brown youth encounter. A community of women have already stepped up to the plate so that we could develop a prototype in order to pitch for funding to grow the project. 

What We Need & What You Get

DIVAS for Social Justice needs to fundraise $10,000 to provide:

.  8 weeks of classes in coding and digital media to further develop app and train young women in underserved communities

• Develop marketing plan to launch the  My Sister's Keeper App
• Pay fees associated with development of the App to be available for free.
• Cover the fees for printing photography work associated with project to be displayed on exhibit.
