Synopsis
Canada is a big country. With a massive amount of talent. Produced by Jesse Read, Benjamin Gibson and Nikolay Varlamov of Dropout Entertainment ‘Next Up Across Canada’ features two music-driven film makers from Canada's independent music website, Dropout Entertainment. Setting out across Canada they seek to find the most ‘successful’ independent music artists in the country. On their journey filled with artist interviews and performances they will discover success looks different for every artist; along with the surreal beauty of Canada itself.
Introduction
It’s a long journey across the second largest country in the world. With an incredible amount to take in. Next Up Across Canada is a 90-minute documentary that features two music-inspired filmmakers, Benjamin and Nik, of Dropout Entertainment heading out from Toronto to Vancouver by car with the intention of finding the most ‘successful’ independent Canadian music artists, hidden gems, what makes them tick and what success in Canada’s independent music scene means to them. Our duo will leave no stone unturned and no awesome local live music venues unchecked or undiscovered.
The team will document their travel, the Canadian cities they visit, their trials and the talent they meet and discover along the way. In an effort to make it to Vancouver, Canada by a certain date to meet and record a live performance with one of Canada's biggest new talents, the team will have little time to make the trip and capture as much awesome talent as they can. Producer Jesse Read and Founder of Dropout Entertainment has toured across Canada with his own independent band a number of times and will help the team find the best local acts at every stop of their journey.
The Impact
Ben and Nik will visit a multitude of Canadian cities. Interviewing Canadian bands and artists along the way, while documenting the experiences and visuals of each beautiful city this country has to offer. Each of these stops is almost guaranteed to have a unique music scene or situation and our team wants to find the most successful group and artists among them, and document their perspectives of what success means to them, and their perspectives on being a Canadian artist.
