OF DICE AND MEN is a new comedy feature film shooting in late September 2013 based on the critically acclaimed play about tabletop roleplaying gamers written by Cameron McNary. Since its premiere to a packed house of 550 at the PAX Prime gaming convention, the play has played to rave reviews at professional theaters in New York, Berkeley, Atlanta, and several other cities.

McNary, along with award-winning screenwriter Francis Abbey, have transformed the play into a hilarious and poignant "High Fidelity meets Dragonslayer" film script that will appeal to gamers and non-gamers alike.

Few game masters can make the game come to life better than John Francis. Dwarves, Mages and Barbarians jump right off of their character sheets whenever he sits down at the gaming table of frisky suburbanite parents, Linda and Brandon. John Francis’ best friends, sailor-mouthed John Alex and thoughtful jock Jason, bring roguish swagger and knightly nobility to the game. And the object of John Francis’ affection, the feisty Tara, provides all the Half Elven Double Princess backstory they could ever need.

But when Jason enlists to go to Iraq and with the relationship with Tara going nowhere, it may be time for John Francis to hang up his twenty sided dice and take a job on the other side of the country. However, John Francis is about to discover that leaving will prove tougher than the Tomb of Horrors.

OF DICE AND MEN is a blisteringly funny and deeply affecting look at the things that truly matter in life.

OF DICE AND MEN will shoot over ten days in September 2013 at multiple locations in Maryland and Northern Virginia with a crew of 12 and a core cast of six, along with several dayplayers and extras.

This campaign will supplement our funds to pay for camera, lighting and equipment rental, studio/location costs, costuming and cast and crew stipends. There are also several green screen/special effects scenes in the script - the more we are able to fund these, the better our effects will be. We will be enlisting the help of conceptual artists, matte painters and visual effects experts.

We will seek distribution for OF DICE AND MEN, and plan to showcase it at several gaming and sci-fi/fantasy conventions after its release in early 2014.

Kelley Slagle, Director and Producer of OF DICE AND MEN, began directing, producing and editing short films and music videos with her company, Cavegirl Productions, in 2004. Cavegirl Productions has created films for twelve 48 Hour Film Project and National Film Challenge competitions. The films have collectively earned ten awards and many were accepted in other festivals.

Kelley is joined in producing OF DICE AND MEN by Executive Producer, lifelong gamer and longtime member of the Cavegirl team, Seth C. Polansky, and by award-winning filmmaker and co-screenwriter of OF DICE AND MEN, Francis Abbey of Ciscovaras Pictures.

Most recently, Kelley and Francis co-produced THE BROKEN CONTINENT, a new epic fantasy webseries, after completing two successful Kickstarter campaigns that raised over $50,000. The series is now available at www.getbroken.tv.
