HOW IT ALL STARTED
Being a huge electronic music fan, I soon realized how difficult it is to discover new music on online radios, Grooveshark, Spotify, iTunes, or Youtube and similar sites. I can’t count how many times I had to hit the “next” tab looking for something that would suit my mood. Then I got an idea of writing an algorithm that would create playlists based on my favorite tunes’ sound and not on the artist or band’s name. I started programming the beta version of the site, and luck had it that on one of my flights to Barcelona, I happened to sit in an airplane next to a professional DJ. Loving electronic music as much as I do (I also DJ when we through a party from time to time), I started talking to him to try to figure out how he discovered new tunes for his playlists. The DJ told me that he considered each tune based on the beat, frequency, pitch and rhythm. His reply amazed me, because this was exactly what I was creating. The conversation in the air gave me assurance in what I was pursuing and pushed me to work even harder to get the beta version of Opentracklist out.
Once the first version of the site was done, I told my friends and peers about it and it caught fire. Truth be said, I didn’t publicize it at all, apart from letting my network know about it. People simply started to use it. A week later, a friend told me that Opentracklist was open on his desktop for the whole week and it was just perfect for listening to music at work. Once people started to tell me how much they loved it, I gave it a second thought and started to work on improving the logo and the design. While working hard and doing all the backend work, I met my cofounder and got a couple of more people on our team. Together we went even further. We redesigned the site with the UX in mind, we became more customer focused, we translated it into different languages, and we developed new features.
Check out what we were able to achieve on our own! We think you will love the site and the amazing choice of electronic music it offers. And best of all it is free. No fees!

WHY CROWDFUNDING?
Over and over again we have been asked by our users to introduce new features. Among them, the most relevant are the ability to create a profile, to create a music list, to vote on music lists, to select the music list of the week, to share the list with your friends.
Also, since our user base grew dramatically over the last year we need new servers and people to help us set up the backend properly. As we have already said, the service we provide is totally free and we want to keep it free. And we do not spam users with advertising (yes, no ads on the site). It will be just your favorite music and you.
For all these reasons we decided to turn to a crowdfunding platform for help. Your contribution will help us to implement all those awesome features! And what is more important, it will help to keep our service free and let you enjoy a clean stream of the music you love.
We will try to go as far as we can, and if the project becomes popular and gets fully funded we will also implement the following features
- Allow artists to manage their profiles and connect with their fans. A full set of analytical tools for their songs and music trends.
- Offer artists the possibility to organize events and sell tickets to those events, using their fan network.
- Integrate Opentracklist with other social platforms, like Facebook, Twitter and SoundCloud, to build a 360 degrees experience.
- Bring more music styles to the platform, thereby further enhancing the music recommendation algorithm.
- Any suggestions? We would love to hear from you and implement them if it is feasible and our team agrees on their value. Feel free to email your suggestions, comments ,or just say “hi” to: info@opentracklist.com
All of the above services we want to provide at no cost to artists and users of the site. This is the reason we are funding all these improvements through Indiegogo.
Feel like it is worth your time and money? Help us to improve it! Become a contributor!
We definitely feel it is worth our efforts! We made it work and grow in the past year! And we are looking to converting it into your favorite electronic music streamingsite in 2013!
Thank you from the Opentracklist team.
