Short Summary

We (Alicia Milne and Luis Vasquez La Roche) are both visual artists that have been working collectively on urban projects under the alias ‘Pinky & Emigrante’ since 2011.

‘Pinky & Emigrante’ have been selected to represent Alice Yard art space during our stay at the Stichting Open Ateliers Zuidoost (OAZO AIR) artist in residence program from July 1^st – August 30^th 2013 and we are excited!

OAZO AIR is a not for profit organization that manages sixty artists’ studios in Amsterdam Zuidoost. Through the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts, OAZO AIR has turned two of those spaces into a work studio and a living studio available for visiting international artists. OAZO AIR funds the living space and work studio but the selected artists are responsible for their own travel, living and material costs. 

Amsterdam Zuidoost is a large culturally diverse city with many immigrants and a large active arts community. OAZO AIR expects selected artists to interact with the local community and create projects relevant to the space. We find Amsterdam Zuidoost to be a very exciting location for our first artist residency as we both make artwork relative to the cultural complexity found in Trinidad and wish to investigate any parallels between the societies of Amsterdam and Trinidad. 

What We Need & What You Get

Our total budget for international and domestic travel, living expenses and material expenses for the two of us for the two-month stay is US$11,800. The Ministry of Arts and Multicultralism has already supported by contributing US$5,900 to our cause.

We would love your help in raising US$4,000 for the residency expenses. We estimate we can handle raising the rest of the budget on our own. 

Your contributions will help us get to Amsterdam safely and explore the city, and most importantly allow us to develop our collaborative and personal projects while we are there! 

Have no fear, even if we do not reach the full target for this campaign we will still be participating in the residency - if necessary we will just adjust the length of our stay or the materials we use.

The Impact

This residency will give us the time and space to pursue projects that may not be possible in our everyday circumstances. It will also offer exposure to new ideas and collaborators, a chance for us to expand our contacts internationally, and gain valuable knowledge of other creative contexts.
