About the IMC
The Independent Music Collective (IMC) is a student organization at the University of South Alabama that sponsors a listening-room concert series featuring roots musicians and Americana acts. Since 2009, the IMC has hosted dozens of nationally acclaimed musicians, including Richard Buckner, Will Johnson, Eef Barzelay, Charlie Parr, Scott
H. Biram, Lydia Loveless, Kevin Gordon, and Hurray for the Riff Raff. We typically hold six to eight concerts per year, and have already booked three events for the 2013-14 season:
IMC #20: Cary Hudson @ Satori on Friday, September 6
IMC #21: Tim Easton @ Satori on Friday, September 27
IMC #22: Richard Buckner @ Satori on Tuesday, October 8
The IMC is a collective in the sense that everyone contributes something, from the sound guy who donates his time to the venue that volunteers the space. (Thanks, Satori!) In an effort to provide affordable entertainment and increase participation, we admit South Alabama students for free and charge all others a nominal $5 cover. As a result, the IMC loses hundreds of dollars per show, a shortfall we must cover through ongoing fundraising efforts.
What We Need
One of our biggest logistical challenges involves tracking down sound equipment before each and every concert. Thus, the IMC seeks $1000 to purchase its own dedicated PA system (two towers, an amplifier, and a monitor) in order to provide consistent, professional sound at all our shows. (Should we be so fortunate as to overshoot our goal, any additional funds will be applied toward artist guarantees.)
What You Get
We have a range of perks for our contributors, from show posters to season passes. We also have a very limited number of premium prizes donated to the IMC by past performers. The inimitable Richard Buckner has agreed to record voicemail messages for four campaign contributors. ("Hello, this is Richard Buckner, Keith can't take your call right now...") Eef Barzelay of Clem Snide, meanwhile, has offered to write and record a song especially for one lucky contributor. (Grab these limited perks while you can--they're sure to go quickly!)
Other Ways to Help
If you're unable to contribute financially, you can still help by spreading the word. Tell all your friends, and thanks for supporting the best little roots music series on the Gulf Coast!
