What Do You Do When Your Best Friend Dies Doing Something You Both Love?
On April 23, 2009 Zac Crouse witnessed the death of his friend during a kayaking accident. After being diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Crouse decided to use his passion for music & kayaking as part of his recovery.
In 2011, this Halifax-based musician & recreation therapist toured his first solo album you plan to do nothing from Ottawa, Ontario back home to Nova Scotia without the assistance of motor vehicles.
Paddle to the Ocean is the story of Zac's trip and his fight against PTSD.
Available on DVD with accompanying original soundtrack in May 2013.

Zac Crouse has toured throughout Canada & in the US with Multiple ECMA & MNS nominated groups/artists such as Caledonia, Acres & Acres, Tanya Davis & Don Brownrigg. In 2009 his song ‘Scott’s House’ charted at #4 on the CBC Radio 3 Top 30, made the top 103 songs of the year (CBC3) & was nominated for an ECMA (Single of the Year). The video for Zac's single 'So Fine' has won multiple awards at the 2012 Reel Paddling Film Festival & WaterWalker Film Festival.
Zac Crouse, (M.Ed., CTRS) has worked for over 10 years with young people who have substance use and mental health issues. Zac uses recreation therapy and experiential education techniques to help young people develop leadership skills and increase resiliency through social, communication and problem solving exercises.
Zac is an accomplished white-water and expedition sea kayaker and a Paddle Canada sea kayak & canoe instructor. In addition to completing a sea kayak/bicycle journey from Ottawa to Halifax, he has circumnavigated the islands of Cape Breton (canoe) and Newfoundland (sea kayak).
