UPDATE: WE REACHED OUR TARGET! Thank you all so much for making our project a reality. Our human rights defenders and partner organizations in Pakistan, alongside all the young people in the Netherlands, really appreciate all your effort and support. You have all made a huge difference and we cannot wait to update you on the project.

But please, don't stop now. We still have many excellent perks left to go, and we have an extension project which we can start if we can reach 1500 euros

If we meet this extension target  we will organise a special screening of "Pakistan: A defining moment" and have a discussion with activists from Pakistan and Bangladesh to address what we can all do to stop the marginalization of minorities while promoting development-oriented policies that support an inclusive society.

GHRD is organizing a lobby tour with special guests, human rights activists and experts from Bangladesh and Pakistan in The Netherlands and Brussels to highlight the situation of minorities in both countries, so the speakers will already be in the country.

We need to raise 800 Euros to cover moderator fee, venue cost, food and
beverages for the reception, printing cost for the promotional material,
presents for the speakers and event package (folder, related reports and
badges).

So, please keep on sharing, commenting, liking and donating, and help us make it happen even better for Pakistan: A Defining Moment'. Thank you!

Hello!

We are Global Human Rights Defence, a small international non-profit organization based in The Hague, and we are dedicated to promoting and protecting human rights in South Asia, in countries we feel often slide down low of the global political agenda. One of our main goals is to engage and inspire young people to take action on human rights issues through education, aiming to cultivate a greater sense of social responsibility.

This is why GHRD has made a documentary on human rights issues in Pakistan, and we have started this appeal for funds to enable us to take the film on tour around universities, to ensure that these brave activists' voices are heard. We feel so strongly that these stories need to be told. We have been inspired by these human rights activists and victims of human rights abuses, and you will be too!

Please help us to spread the word!

What We Need & What You Get

We are aiming to raise 1250 euros, and this will enable us to take the documentary to another 6 universities in the Netherlands. We will be taking one Human Rights Officer and one GHRD Good Will Ambassador to each screening to help engage and education young people about the issues the film raises. We have designed a complimenting postcard campaign 'Postcards for Pakistan: Stamping out injustice one letter at a time', and after each screening and debate we will invite the attendees to write to the UN Special Rapporteur on Religious Freedom or Belief, on our specially designed postcards.

Our funding will pay for:

  • train travel (economy class) for the Human Rights Officer and Good Will Ambassadors to and from the location
  • printing postcards for the 'Postcards for Pakistan' campaign
  • costs of venues (where required)
  • audiovisual equipment rental (where required)
  • light refreshments for the students (biscuits and soft drinks)

We are in the process of potentially raising up to 800 euros through foundations, but we need your help to raise the remaining 1250 euros. Without these funds we cannot make these activist’s voices heard. Please give whatever you can to help provide a platform for them.

What if we don't reach our goal?

If we don't reach our goal, we will reduce the number of destinations on our tour accordingly.

Please take a look at our unique perks! From a personal Thank You on Twitter, to your name on the specially designed postcards that will be sent to the UN Special Rapporteur on Religious Freedom or Belief as part of our postcard campaign 'Postcards for Pakistan: Stamping out injustice one letter at a time', there is a perk to suit any donation.

The Impact

Pakistan is facing a number of human rights problems. Pakistan is a strongly Muslim country, and this manifests itself in many ways, including the controversial blasphemy laws, which has seen children accused of blasphemy, and can incur the death penalty. Women’s rights and children’s rights have come to prominence recently with the attempted assassination of Malala Yousaifzai, the young activist for education and women’s rights. The rights of religious minorities are also often unprotected, and many high profile organizations claim that Pakistan continues to engage in and tolerate systematic, ongoing, and egregious violations of freedom of religion or belief.

So what can be done to help those affected by these profound and serious human rights violations? How can we inspire people to take action and make a change?

We have created a short film documenting human rights abuse in Pakistan. ‘Pakistan: a defining moment’ features interviews with people who have had their human rights violated, and people who have fought for their own and other’s human rights.

GHRD has an excellent track record of creatively engaging young people in human rights activism, and inspiring them to take action about the issues that are important to them. This time, we have designed a postcard campaign 'Postcards for Pakistan: Stamping out injustice one letter at a time', and after each screening and debate we will invite the attendees to write to the UN Special Rapporteur on Religious Freedom or Belief, on our specially designed postcards.

It is vital that these accounts reach a wider audience, and that these pressing human rights issues gain the attention they deserve.

’Pakistan: A Defining Moment’ is a powerful documentary that sets itself apart ultimately by presenting a positive message of the future of Pakistan and the efforts of the country’s human rights activists. These activists work tirelessly for human rights, united by their cause, their love for their country and its people, and the unshaking belief that this truly is a defining moment for Pakistan.”
