Short Summary
Hello and Bienvenidos! Welcome to the Libros sin Fronteras project. We are a group of people from Mexico, the US, and Canada, and we all share the love of reading, books, and learning about different languages and cultures. Libros sin Fronteras seeks to promote the love of literacy and education to children, youth, and adults here in Mexico. This is our campaign: every year Libros sin Fronteras will choose one or more books to read in group settings. Our goal is to have reading groups in the local schools, libraries, and rural communities. We will read books in both English and Spanish, and conduct informal discussion groups about the books' subjects and beyond! This year we have chosen "Cajas de Carton" by Francisco Jimenez. A beautiful book based on the life of the author, "Cajas de Carton" or "The Circuit" (English translation), tells the poignant story of Francisco and his family migrating from Mexico to central California to find work and a better life for their family. Dr. Jimenez will honor us with a personal visit to San Miguel, November 14 - 16, 2013. He is now a professor at the University of Santa Clara in California, and is well known as an author who teaches about the importance of reading and education to young people all over the US. He will be able to discuss his life and work with a community of all ages, diverse backgrounds, and in both languages. It is an opportunity to make contact with all those that have been profoundly moved by his books.
What we are asking for.
We need your help and support! Do you remember your first book, or your first trip to the public library? We want to replicate that experience for many in Mexico, and we need contributions to buy books for the many who can't afford them. There are children from rural communities who need transportation to be able to get to San Miguel to meet the author. We need money to pay for the author's trip to Mexico. This is our first year of what we hope will be the beginning of many. Help us sustain this effort so that we might create a lasting program that fosters reading and cultural exchange.
We are asking for $5,000. You will be helping to foster communities through the invaluable benefits of reading. You will be contributing to the future of children in the educational systems. You will be supporting the message that anything is possible as long as one's imagination can thrive.

As so many of us can attest to, reading fosters the imagination, keeps the brain happy and active, increases vocabulary, and brings us closer to one another through the power of shared stories.
As the wise and irreverent Dr. Seuss said, "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places
you will go."
