WHAT IS?

Paradise is a short fictional film, directed by Carlos Albero, which takes a visually innovative approach to the difficult journey many Africans make to Europe, and the difference between the life they hoped to find and the reality they discover.

SYNOPSIS

A young man from a Nigerian suburb pays a black market organisation to help him travel across Africa and the Straits of Gibraltar to Europe.

He leaves behind his family and everything he knows to start a long, arduous journey to a decadent paradise. 

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION

There is no dialogue in the short, which is filmed entirely from a subjective point of view, with music as the narrative thread. We see the actors move their lips, but we never hear their voices.

Mad House has created this campaign in support of the overall funding of the project. It is funded by the creator’s savings, European, state and regional subsidies, and this crowdfunding campaign.

We have taken care of everything to offer you high quality material, from the illustrations, which are almost like a comic of the short, to the “making of” showing you every detail of the process of creating this cinematic work. 

TEAM

One of the group’s strong points is that we offer a mix of profiles, some of us with a great deal of experience in important positions, ensuring the quality of the work, and some who are new to the medium, bringing a fresh viewpoint and new ideas. 

Most of the actors are first-timers, eager to produce a wonderful performance and get a foothold in the industry. The mosaic below shows some of the casting of Paraíso.

The success of this campaign will help create higher quality work with which to generate debate and opinions about the problem it depicts.

PRODUCTION DATES

Paraíso will be filmed over 5 days, scheduled for the first two weeks of September 2014. After the post-production process, the work will be ready by the last week of September 2014, and will be presented at festivals beginning after 1 January 2015.
