The film is almost ready to come out of the oven, thanks to contributions from the first fundraising campaign for Pie Lady of Pie Town. We raised two thirds of our goal, which is allowing us to do justice to Kathy's story and capture the charming essence of Pie Town itself.
Postproduction costs are rising and we need more "dough" to complete this project. If you have already contributed and can throw in a few more bucks, I will make sure that you receive whatever perks are merited for the total amount. If you have contributed and can't give anymore, I understand - all I ask is that you pass this on to everyone and anyone you know who loves independent film, pie, the Old West, or the sentiment that Pie = love.
As an award-winning photographer, and as a pie lover, discovering the Pie-O-Neer in Pie Town, New Mexico was an inspiration on multiple levels. Kathy particularly inspired me because, for her, pie is a vehicle for peace, love and healing. The theme song "Pie = Love" contains the lighthearted lyric
"You talk about nutrition,
That Pie Lady's on a mission
To prove to all you mathematicians
That pie equals love."
"In fact that is exactly the case. As one person points out in the sizzle reel, "we feel it!" If you go to the Pie-O-Neer, you will not only have the pleasure of eating some of the best pie on the planet, but you will feel the peace and love that Kathy serves with it. Although it is possible to have too many pieces of pie in one sitting, there is never enough peace.
We worked with award-winning director of photography Luke Fitch in June, and I'm currently collaborating with editor Tristan Love. The film will be finished by the end of September. Originally it was to be about 15 minutes long but it will be nearly twice that length, suitable for submission to PBS as well as film festivals around the world. I feel honored for the opportunity to create this uplifting short film, and hope that you will join me in spreading the message of peace-through-pie by making a contribution.
Remember, we personally make nothing from this fundraiser. Money raised pays for the cameramen, editor, sound and music production, equipment rental, duplication, film festival fees, licensing and legal fees, website maintenance, promotional costs, etc. - it all adds up quickly. Without your help we simply cannot complete this film.
Donation perks vary and include a Pie-O-Neer mug, digital download/hard copy of the film, and screen credits from "Thank You" to "Executive Producer." You could even be flown into Albuquerque from anywhere in the continental USA, driven to Pie Town by the producers (Dick and me), hang out at the Pie-O-Neer pie shop with the Pie Lady and her pies (your first slice is on us!) AND have a pie named afer you. Now that's something you can sink your teeth into!
In other news, my photograph "Remembering" was an award winner at the InSight Photography Exhibition in Albuquerque this spring, and 'Barbie Meets Cancer" is one of 45 photographs (chosen from over 1100 submitted) to be shown in the "Stories We Tell" exhibit at Phoenix Gallery in New York City this September.
