Update, Oct 2, 2013
We're all chipping in where we can and http://podcastingforcancer.org/ is coming along nicely. Trevor and Josh recently stepped in on the vSoup podcast to talk a little bit about where the SMB lives in the IT world and naturally, about vPodcasting & Podcasting for Cancer. Give it a listen!
New Perk! ($1000)
vSoup has also kindly offered a few perks of their own. At the $1000 level, you can convince them to talk about anything. Anything! Best hairstyle in IT, favorite flavor of bacon salt, anything your imagination can summon. We do ask that you keep it clean, but if you really want them to talk about adult entertainment websites or their favorite local burlesque establishments who are we to stop you?
Another New Perk! ($1500)
The vSoup crew has also offered up a 125x125 banner on vSoup.net for 6 months. Advertise your product to the entire vSoup audience!
Update, Sept 24, 2013
We have almost reached $10,000 just passed $10,000 (mind=blown) with a total of 5 companies contributing $1000 to the cause so far. There are 61 64 total funders as of the $10,000 mark, and every one of you is awesome! We are adding a new perk level in the hopes of not merely breaking the $10,000 mark, but pushing past $15,000 in the 49 days that remain.
New Perk! ($500)
We have had several offers of time and assistance from numerous prominent vBloggers. As such, we have stood up http://podcastingforcancer.org/. Anyone donating $500 will get to pick a topic and have a blog written by a vBlogger. This will be posted on the Podcasting For Cancer website and can also be posted on the desired website of the donor. These are the best and brightest in our industry, why not have them write for you?
Update, Sept 20, 2013
Sadly, Gabe's mum passed away last night. Our condolences to the entire Chapman family in this difficult time.
Thank you to all who have donated - and all those who will donate - for helping to make this difficult time for our friend that little bit less horrible.
Update, Sept 17, 2013
Ladies, Gentlemen and Kerbals everywhere, we have surpassed our $5000 goal. This is truly amazing - I can't believe we did that in under 3 days! - but this isn't over yet. We're going to see just how far we can take this! We are going to be adding new perks over the next few days as more and more vPeeps volunteer their time and resources to keep this project moving forward!
New Perk! ($5000)
Two of the true powerhouses of our industry - Scott Lowe and David Davis - have generously donated a 125x125 advertisement slot for 1 year on virtualizationsoftware.com. What better way to advertise the podcast and webex you get at the $1000 level?
New Perk! ($2500)
The $5000 perk offer was followed very shortly thereafter by Luigi Danakos offering up a similar avertising slot on nerblurt.com. Nerblurt is a rather popular blog within the VMware community and well respected. Thank you to Luigi for giving donors yet another way to help Podcasting for Cancer!
Podcasting for Cancer
One of the more prominent (and well-loved) members of the VMware community, Gabriel Chapman (@Bacon_Is_King), recently tweeted "Just a year after losing Dad to cancer, Mom's has now spread from lung to other areas. Too soon for this shit."
It's always too soon for cancer, sir.
After this unfortunate tweet an idea was bounced around the vBlogging community: vExperts and vBloggers will get together with vBrownbag and VMUG folks to put on a series of top-notch podcasts on relevant upcoming technologies that affect the virtualisation industry. We would stand up a fundraising site with the proceeds going towards a cancer donation in the Chapman family name.
The response to this idea has been overwhelmingly positive.
Several virtualisation experts have committed to crafting top notch content for this event. What we need is you! Toss some money in the kitty and let's make a collective dent in this whole cancer thing. The VMware community has proven that when we put our minds to it, we can do anything.
Let's do this.
eGeek Consulting will be donating the time and resources to do the production and hosting of the podcasts. The VMware community is already stepping forward with experts ready to man the microphones. So please join us in Podcasting for Cancer.
The details:
Donors will get advanced access to the podcasts, which will be recorded in November and December. This gives us time to get things funded, for topics to be chosen and for the experts to have spun up and worked with the technologies in question.
Podcasts will be released to the community at large shortly after they are first released to donors. We are aiming for a total of 8 podcasts, with up to four webexes, depending on how many $1000 donors we get.

Notes:
1) I typoed the vCancer Elite perk. It *should* read "virtualization" where it currently reads "visualisation."
2) Steve Kaplan (@ROIdude) wanted to be able to pay by cheque. As that isn't possible, I asked him to donated directly to the American Cancer Society Inc. He is sending them $350 in the name of Podcasting for Cancer and the Chapman family. As such, we are inventing a ninth podcasting slot for this fine sir and he gets to pick the topic. So add $350 to the number you see on the "amount raised" bar!
