What is PowerShift
PowerShift is been a one-of-kind, transformative organizing project growing in Canada.
Launched in 2009 as a national youth-led climate change summit, PowerShift today is much more - it is a catalyst for energizing and empowering new momentum organizing for climate justice.
In 2013, PowerShift BC launched a new phase of organizing kicking off a plan to hold 6 PowerShifts across Canada in the next 2 years. PowerShift is driving new energy into the climate movement in Canada, empowering youth to take action, like in the burgeoning Fossil Free Canada Divestment campaign.
So far we have brought together and trained thousands of young people, and in 2014 we want to make that even more to support movement building piece by piece.
What We Need
With rising ambitions to bring regional PowerShifts across Canada, so too comes a rising need for resources. This year we want to try and put on 2 regional PowerShifts, in Halifax in March and then another PowerShift in the fall. Each PowerShift costs upwards of $100,000 to bring speakers, rent space, provide scholarships and more, and your support for this campaign will help make this happen.
The Impact
Regional PowerShifts are striving towards training, connecting and empowering 10,000 young people across Canada to take action for a just and sustainable future. PowerShift alumni are already taking action in a range of ways from fossil fuel divestment campaigns to local organizing action to stop fracking and tar sands, to organizing high school students and more.
