Pressures is an organization founded by Derrick Belcham and Ruby Kato Attwood creating works at the intersection of independent dance, music and filmmaking. Our goal is to celebrate the effortless spontaneity of carefully curated collaboration through an integrated film and documentation process.
On July 31st, the New York times featured the world premiere of our first film in the series, "Forcelessness", directed by Derrick Belcham, with music by Sarah Neufeld, choreography by Emery LeCrone and dancers Kaitlyn Gilliland & Pierre Guilbault.
In 2013/14, we are seeking $10,000 to create a series of 10 films, each exploring the relationship of the score, the choreography and the edit. Pressures will select one musician and one choreographer, capturing their work for your enjoyment and inspiration.
As a donor, you will know where you money is going and how much it means to the artists involved. Donations dedicated toward the distribution of the completed works will expose emerging and established artists to critical review and broader audiences, and funds allocated for modest artist fees and basic equipment rental are absolutely essential for the film creation process.
All Pressures films are available exclusively for our donors, well in advance of the public. These pre-release screenings will also feature an original “Thank-you” video, wherein the artists express their gratitude directly to you. Exhibition at festivals, private and online screenings will follow, crediting each donor by name, with their rightful role, as Producers.
Currently, they are slated to create works with musicians Tim Fain (Philip Glass soloist), Richard Reed Parry (Arcade Fire), Laurel Sprengelmeyer (Little Scream), Sarah Neufeld (Arcade Fire), Colin Stetson (Tom Waits, Lou Reed, Bon Iver), Simone Schmidt ($100, FIVER), Mauro Remiddi (Porcelain Raft), Casey Dienel (White Hinterland), Pietro Amato (Arcade Fire, The Luyas), Taraka Larsen (Prince Rama), Eddi Front, Julianna Barwick, Skye Skjelset (Fleet Foxes) and Marissa Nadler, and choreographers Beth Gill, Stacy Grossfield, Miguel Gutierrez, Emery LeCrone, Mary Cavett, Chloe & Katherine, Haylee Nichele, Chelsea Bonosky, Melanie Maar, Mariel Lugosh-Ecker and Emily Terndrup.
