the project...
Project HOPE Art believes that Art is the universal language which transcends differences in cultural and customary barriers. Art is a tool for education that encourages creative thinking, problem solving and growth. Art gives a voice to the voiceless. Art is good for the soul.
PHA supports performance artist Pamela Crawford's Project Express Yourself via our Visiting Artist Program. Her goal for her two weeks in Haiti with PHA partner organizations is to bring self and group expression to the children of Haiti through the art of Hooping. Pamela will teach hooping skills that will culminate in a community performance at the end of her residency in Haiti. This performance and the days leading up to it will be filmed for documentation.
This form of dance and exercise carries many physical, mental and emotional benefits. In dance as a whole, children find ways to use movement for exploration, and to communicate ideas, issues, and their own feelings and thoughts. Adding a hoop to the foundation of dance not only has a fun and memorable impact on their childhood but throughout their life.
the impact...
Sometimes children can become so bogged down with the worries of daily life that they forget to let a little of their own creativity come out as they develop into adults. By nature, we are individuals who are yearning to express ourselves to the world. Fulfilling the natural desire to express who we and share that expression with others is one of the best ways to find peace of mind. The children of Haiti will explore the world of hoop dance to help inspire self esteem, self expression, self respect and provide stress relief.
what we have and what we need...
This is a project fuelled by passion. Project HOPE Art and Pamela Crawford believe deeply in our mission and will make this project a reality with your help. PHA has made 6 trips to Haiti since its inception in 2010. We are now proud to bring visiting artists to Haiti so they can share their skills and talents. Pamela is based in Los Angeles, CA where she has taught hoop enthusiasts and children the beauty of hoop dance for the past five years. She also trains hoopers and fitness experts to become certified hoop teachers as the Teacher Training Coordinator and Master Trainer for Hoopnotica.
The $4250 raised in this campaign will be used to cover the main expenses of executing this project such as transportation, lodging, equipment and filming costs. All PHA team members and Pamela Crawford are volunteering their time, energy and personal expenses into this project. Any funds we may raise above the $4,250 will go towards the greater PHA mission and its Haitian project partners by bringing supplies and materials to those who need it most. PHA is fiscally sponsored by Fractured Atlas which makes all of your donations tax deductible.
Our aim is to complete this fundraiser in October and execute this project in January of 2013.
