'I'm going away to leave you, love
I'm going away for a while
But I'll return to see you sometime
If I go ten thousand miles'
Rachel's Story
“She’s quite the paradox: a young songwriter who perfectly embodies the music of the American South, but who lives in the wilds of Northern Michigan. An artist who grew up with parents in a bluegrass band, but who spent her teen years drumming in an all-girl punk band. A shy, soft-spoken introvert whose wall- shaking voice has earned her a place at cutting- edge roots music festivals like Muddy Roots. An icon of underground country music who covers jazz and blues greats like Fats Domino on her new record. But when you sing this well and play like hell, who do you have to answer to anyways?”
Through hard work and heartache Rachel has made a name for herself in the roots music world. She has dedicated her life to her love of music--writing, and performing throughout the United States, and singing her sad ballads and blues to anyone who would lend an ear. She’s released a handful of full-length albums without the help of label support, or sponsorship-(But with a lot of love from her fans). And with her newest release “A Killer’s Dream” she’s received rave reviews from all over the world. She’s fearlessly toured the West, East, South, Midwest and North.—And now, she has been invited to take another large leap in her musical career-a leap across the ocean, that is.
This year Rachel was invited to play Muddy Roots Europe, and she is booked for a string of European dates including Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, and Finland. This will be her first time crossing “the pond” (Her first time leaving the United States, for that matter) and as exciting and adventurous as it sounds, there are a few obstacles in her path.-This is where you come in.
What She Needs
It turns out that it's not as easy as packing a suitcase and guitar into the van and driving a few hours each day to the show. There are a lot of "extra" steps that we have to take to get Europe, as well as some extra expenses. The bill adds up rather quick, with airfare, transportation, rental equipment, shipping of cd's and shirts, lodging, and everyday expenses. And the trick is coming up with all that cash before we leave.
So in order to raise the funds that we need, we’ve put together a few special and unique incentives for helping us out. If you like Rachel, and you like her music, and if you think she deserves a chance to share her music and unique talent with the rest of the world, ‘put a little $$$ugar in her bowl’-No matter how much you give, you’re sure to get something pretty special in return.
