Hello Rad Dad supporter!
I am writing with some exciting news. Rad Dad is just about to release its 24th issue this June; it’s one of the best issues so far.
However, I have been thinking about retiring Rad Dad at the 25th issue. But as I shared the idea with a few close friends, they encouraged me to re-consider that decision, perhaps to even try something different, something bigger. To move from being a zine to being a magazine.
And, yeah, I do want to expand the reach of Rad Dad, broadening the community of parents we have worked to create. I want Rad Dad in bookstores and grocery stores across the country, in small towns and big cities.
Some things will change. But what won't change is this:
- Rad Dad will still be submission based.
- Rad Dad will remain rad as in radical, not cool
- Rad Dad will continue to present a wide range of voices and experiences, challenging the mainstream stereotypical representation of fatherhood.
- Rad Dad will always need you.
So with that said, I am unveiling the new incarnation of Rad Dad:
Rad Dad, a Zine for Rad Dads, Hip Mamas, and Everyone In-between.
Beginning with issue 25, I want a redesigned look, modeled after magazines that inspire me like Bitch, Hip Mama and Hyphen. To do so, I will need a graphic designer, a small collective of editors, subscription options, but most of all – you.
I will need your help! Here’s how...
What We Need & What You Get
I need $10,000 to pay for a graphic designer to create a new look for Rad Dad, cover the initial printing costs in order to increase our distribution, and to pay a small stipend to contributors and editors for their work.
When you donate to the campaign, you will have your choice of gifts: amazing diy zines, publications, tote bags and t-shirts carrying the Rad Dad message. They are full of the authentic voices and stories that have made Rad Dad so popular.
We're going forward with the relaunch of Rad Dad this coming December. Every dollar you contribute will help us along the way. Be part of our Rad Dad family and join us in expanding the community we all want to be a part of!
The Impact
You will be supporting a publication that is truly one of a kind—and helping build a unique community. Only in Rad Dad will you find the voices of so many diverse and marginalized fathers and families: queer fathers, poor fathers, punk fathers, feminist fathers, fathers of color, trans fathers.
Rad Dad has a proven track record of consistently publishing independent reader contributed stories and essays about the pain, politics, and pleasures of radical parenting. Help us share our stories with a wider audience.
