Rhino Conservation, Expansion ranges and Protection Project
Be a part of saving this ancient and endangered species from extinction. This is a conservation project with a wider social impact and community initiative
We are raising money to assist in Phase 1 of the establishment of a rhino sanctuary in Botswana.
The actual project site is a designated wildlife reserve, registered non profit and has the President of Botswana’s endorsement. The continued plunder of the rhino due to illegal poaching is well documented and is set to continue until every single rhino has been slaughtered unless a comprehensive and disruptive plan is put into place. As intelligent people, we all understand that arresting the demise of the rhino is going to take more than setting aside land and providing armed guards for the rhino.
The Hokoyo Board have the experience and skills needed to not only ensure the conservatory has the ideal habitat, ecosystem and conditions for the rhino, they also have direct experience in securing government participation, community outreach and buy in, local capacity building, early warning systems, disruptive technology and communication, protection and sustainable business modeling.
The team are all African, who are experts in their field and have operated extensively in Africa. All are donating their time and experience because they know if something is not done soon, by them, there will be no future for the rhino.

Extinction Is Forever
Hokoyo Wildlife Foundation is a Southern African not for profit foundation. Julie Anne Edwards, Hokoyo’s founder is one of the Rhino Girls, who rode bicycles from Edinburgh to Victoria falls, Zimbabwe to raise money to save the rhino. Still true to her mission, Julie established the Hokoyo Foundation in order to:
- Assist in the ethical conservation of the Rhino and Africa's unique wildlife and cultural heritage.
- Help our communities to develop skills that improve their individual lives, nurturing in a spirit of compassion, dignity and respect towards one another and our natural world.

The Impact
This initial phase 1 of the project is to raise money to support the feasibility study of the site in Botswana, including sending experts to assess the site, the finalizing of the business plan, local community and champion engagement and consultation.
Included will be the identification of local community capacity building and assessing local resources for the building of community based warning systems and conservation education. Building a sustainable project includes the creation of recurrent sources of self-generated funding and strategic partnerships.
Through resourceful planning, time donated and literally working off the smell of an oil rag, we have brought the amount we need for this phase down to £1000,00. We appreciate this is a big ask, but we are creating an amazing model that will be the future of conservation.
However, anything over and above the money raised will go directly into the project and towards the next phase of the project.
Other Ways You Can Help
We understand that not everybody can contribute financially. Increasing the global awareness of the illegal trade in Rhino horn is an important element in the fight against the extinction of the Rhino.
Please log on with either Facebook or Twitter and share this project. On Twitter we are using the hashtag #StopPoaching
We are looking for a corporate sponsor too. Because we are approaching the project in phases and ensuring a sustainable business plan is built, the project presents an ideal opportunity for corporate sponsorship.
Thank you for spending the time to consider supporting our cause.
