Ride4ECO 5-mile Fun Ride
Saturday, May 3rd @ 10AM
Ride4ECO
Prince Georges county is in dire need of accessible and affordable healthy foods and healthy activities.
ECO City Farms is a beacon of hope, growing healthy, environmentally friendly local produce and building communities connected by history and sustainable transport.
Ride4ECO will help ECO City Farms reach out to the local community by raising the funds to build a bike stop on the new Anacostia bike trail at their farm in Edmonston, one of the poorest and (until very recently) most polluted communities in the inner-Beltway region. The bike stop will bring more people to ECO City Farms and orient them to the rich African American farming heritage of the area as well as their mission to end food deserts and promote healthy eating in the underserved communities of Prince George’s County.
The bike stop will offer:
-
3-sided kiosk for interpretative signage highlighting the story of African American farmers that cultivated the area before and after the Civil War
-
Directional trail signs
-
Picnic table
-
Tire fill station
-
Water fountain
-
Bike rack.
What ECO City Farms Needs
Ride4ECO needs to
raise $5,000 as matching funds in order to receive the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority
Grant funding for ECO City Farms’ new bike stop. This means that for every dollar
you donate ECO receives $2 towards the bike stop.
The bike stop will
include a 3-sided kiosk for interpretative signage, directional trail signs, a
picnic table, tire fill station, water fountain, and bike rack.
Donor Perk 5-mile Fun Ride
Saturday, May 3rd @ 10AM
As a perk, we are
hosting a bike ride on May 3 that starts at the University of Maryland and ends
at ECO City Farms’ Edmonston Farm where donors will be able to participate in
ECO City Farms’ Open House. Donate at one of the perk levels either as an
individual or as a group and take a tour of the farm and enjoy snacks and fun
activities with ECO City Farms.
