Help Us Raise $13,500 to Film the Chopper Culture at the Smoke Out!
Check out our story, what the culture is about and how music, tattoos, art and choppers define a lifestyle.
The Road to the Smoke Out is a feature length documentary film about choppers and builders, from professional builders to those bloody-knuckled guys (and gals) burning the midnight oil in an unheated shed to build a chopper they can call their own. By Greg “Edge” Scheuer, Director and Zack Coffman, Producer of Choppertown.
What does it take to build your own sled and then ride it across the country to the chopper mecca? We are documenting the lifestyle and the American, British and Metric bikes that roar into Rockingham, NC.
The two-wheel culture including builders, tattoo artists, pinstripers, musicians, custom painters and pin-up models… We are getting up close and personal to share their tricks, tips and experience.
Our Goal
It is our goal to create a film that kicks asphalt… It celebrates what it takes to get your defecation coagulated on the Road to the Smoke Out.
You’ll see the guys and girls that live the lifestyle and are committed to the community. You’ll meet George the Painter, Brew Dude, Fab Kevin, Hammer, Englishmen and a hit parade of others.
What we are not doing
There are one of two problems with almost all the event videos – 1. The films are technically proficient but they don’t portray the bike culture and the really interesting bikes or 2. they know what bikes to shoot but really suck at shooting video, they don’t get good sound and they don’t know how to tell the backstory…
To remedy these issues we brought on Zack Coffman, an expert in the culture who produced the award-winning bike movies Choppertown, Brittown, and the Harbortown Bobber. Together with Edge's vision and the support of The Horse we have the best of solutions; great video, outstanding storytelling, and something that bikers will be proud of.
What have we done so far?
We have been filming in Florida at Willie’s Tropical Tattoo Chopper Time Old School Chopper Show at 825 South Yonge Street, Ormond Beach. Willie’s has become one of the most respected and established bike events during Bike Week. It showcases incredible V-twins, British choppers and bobbers.
What am I funding?
Traveling is by far the biggest expense on our budget. The people we seek are located in enclaves across the country. The money we raise at Indiegogo will be used to fund filming our builders. It will cover plane tickets, lodging, car rental, gas, and living expenses when we are on the road. The plan is to finish filming after the Smoke Out 14 Rally, and then start on post production. We aim to release the film in the third quarter of 2013.
