Help Us Roll Out Rubbers!
(Pitch Video above is suggested for mature audiences)
Hi,
My name is Yew Kwang and I'm a filmmaker based in Singapore. I enjoy making quirky comedies. How quirky? You can take a look at my previous films 18 Grams of Love 爱情十八克 (2007) and When Hainan Meets Teochew 当海南遇上潮州 (2010).
Last year, I decided to embark on an independently financed sex comedy with the working title
Rubbers 套. The movie comprises of three stories
Balloons 老套,
The Plumber 圈套 and
Nightmare 套牢. All the tales revolve around how condoms are used in the pursuit of love, seduction and punishment.
I wanted to make this movie because I wanted to challenge myself.
So why a sex comedy?
Because Singapore is a serious city. The stress level is so high that it makes women frigid and men impotent. A sex comedy is needed. While watching this film, the audience can laugh to relieve their stress, feel lustful after watching it and once they reach home, start making love… with a condom.
Filmmaking is a risky business, and to make sure the project recoups, most films cater to the widest possible audience to minimise the risk factors. But I believe there is also an audience out there who want to watch something that's different. And an alternative film can be just as entertaining as any other mainstream film out there.
Last year, I was lucky enough to be able to gather enough resources with the help of friends to film two of the stories. And just recently, I completed filming the third story.
Actors whom I've worked with previously generously agreed to come onboard despite its naughty theme. I'm grateful to be able to work again with Marcus Chin, Julian Hee, Lee Chau Min, Oon Shu An, Catherine Sng, Alaric Tay and the talented Yeo Yann Yann (Best Supporting Actress at the 50th Golden Horse Awards!).
I'm really very curious to see how audiences will react to a sex comedy like this, as it's something very new for Singapore and (maybe also) Asian cinema.
My wish is now to complete our post-production and get the film ready for a theatrical release in the second half of 2014.
And wait till everyone sees what Yann Yann agreed to do in this film.

What We Need & What You Get!
I need to raise about US$25,000.
Your contributions will help to offset production expenses.
These expenses include talent fees (cast and crew), filming expenses such as meals, transport, equipment, location, wardrobe and props, as well as post-production and marketing costs.
The film will be produced under my own company 18g Pictures.
In return for your help, we're offering the acknowledgements, updates, first look sneak peeks and invites to screenings, etc.
If you would like to support my project, please consider making a donation or helping to spread the word.
Every little bit helps.
