Yes, our Running For a GMO-Free USA campaign has ended, but you can still make a tax-deductible contribution at our website: RunningTheCountry.com
What do you do when your twelve-year-old son
announces he’s going to run across America?
Hello. I’m Brett Wilcox. If you’re like Kris and me,
you change the subject and hope that your son forgets about running the country.
David didn’t forget. As a high school freshman,
David became the regional cross-country champion and the fastest 3A freshman in Alaska. He regularly runs 15-milers in the local mountains. And he’s pumped up to become the 2nd 15-year old to complete this transcontinental run.
Here is David's account of his first cross-country championship!
On January 18, 2014, our family joined with supporters at Huntington Beach, shared our message, then David and I waded into the surf, ran out, put on our shoes and started our 3,000 miles GMO Free USA run.
Since that time, we’ve run 85 miles (see run route here), made public appearances, passed out my book, We’re Monsanto: Feeding the World, Lie After Lie, distributed Baker Creek Heirloom seed packets labeled GMO Free USA, given four or five radio and podcast interviews, interviewed people regarding GMOs, thanked a whole lot of people for a whole lot of support, and, in our spare time, ate and slept. Oh, yeah, we also managed to squeeze a half a day vacation in at Laguna Beach.
Needless to say, for a mom, pop, son, and daughter team, running across the USA takes a huge amount of commitment, time, energy and money. Obviously, we’ve got plenty of commitment, time and energy. And with the help of a good many people, we’ve gathered enough funds to get us started. BUT WE STILL NEED MANY MORE CONTRIBUTORS TO HELP US OUT BY SUPPORTING OUR RUN AND MISSION!!!
Our Mission
As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I’ve spent my
career helping people heal from the poison and pain they’ve endured at the hands of bullies and batterers.
Now, I’m turning my attention to global bullies—bullies like the giant chemical companies that poison the Earth, our political processes and our agricultural system. It's time to stop these bullies!
We’re running across America to say enough is enough. Poisoning our soil, waterways and air is wrong! Killing bees and butterflies is wrong! Poisoning our health is wrong!
In the following video, I expose some of the chemical giants' biggest lies.
While we’re on the road, we’re going to visit farms and farmers and document their stories. What do they think of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), patented seeds, Roundup and other poisons? Just like we’ve done in the first week of our run, we’re going to continue lifting our voices, passing out GMO Free USA seed packets and books, giving presentations and speaking with the media. Beyond telling people they have a right to know if their food is genetically modified, WE’RE SHOWING PEOPLE WHY THEY NEED TO KNOW WHAT’S IN THEIR FOOD. We’re exposing the fraudulent stories pumped out by the corrupt chemical giants. And, of course, we’re heading toward Saint Louis, Missouri, where we will pay a visit to Monsanto—the world’s number one producer of GMOs and the herbicide RoundUp. Then we’ll run to Washington D.C. to remind our nation’s leaders that they work for the American people, not for multi-national corporations.
We
Need Your Help
If we’ve learned anything in the first week of our run, we’ve learned this: We can’t accomplish our run or our mission on our own. We need the help our countless individual—including you!
Both Kris and I have taken a complete leave of absence from our jobs. We’re only a week into our run and we’ve already incurred considerable expenses. That means we’re running on faith—faith that you’ll support a 15-year old boy who’s turning a big dream into an amazing reality, faith that you’ll support a family that’s working together to make a difference, and faith that you’ll realize that your donation is also donation towards your children’s right to grow up in a clean and healthy environment, eating clean and healthy food.
Trust us, we’re living conservatively while on the road, but we still need to pay for a ton of expenses including round trip airfare from Alaska, a 15-year old Ford truck, a five-year old travel trailer, fuel, vehicle and health insurance, food, cameras and documentary equipment, running gear, etc. Not including our lost income, this run is going to cost at least $55,000. Throw in the cost of the post-run documentary and the expenses grow exponentially.
We’re only got a few days left on our campaign, and whether you’re a $10 or a $10,000 contributor, we need and appreciate whatever you can spare!
We’re encouraged by how much we’ve received so far. And we’re holding out hope that we’ll make up the difference in the next few days. If you don’t have much to donate but are connected with people of means, tell them what our family is doing. Ask them to check out our campaign videos! Whatever you can do, help us achieve our campaign goal.
