Salted Wounds
... Is a small book or "zine" style collection of photographs that I've put together of pictures I took in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. The size of the finished book is 9" wide by 7" high. As of right now, the plan is that it will be a soft-cover magazine-style book that will come packaged in a comic-book style sleeve.
I am a local photographer, living on Long Island all my life. My passion is photography, and I've been doing a Picture-A-Day (PAD) Project for over 1500 days now. I love where I live... I am a true New-Yorker at heart, and was affected deeply by the damage I saw around the area after the storm.
I am honored to have the cover photo being featured in a show called "Rising Waters" on Governor's Island, in collaboration with the Museum of the City of New York, and the International Center of Photography. The show features photos from Hurricane Sandy and will run through the end of September. You can get more information on the show by clicking here.
Pre-Sale of Book
My goal is simple... I need to pre-sell a certain number of books so I can afford to have them printed. I want to keep the cost down so that everyone can afford to buy one. Large, hard cover coffee table books are beautiful, but they are often expensive to print and very expensive to buy, so I chose to go this route instead, keeping it more cost effective for both myself and those who wish to purchase my work.
If I receive enough pre-orders, it's possible it will be upgraded to a true soft-cover book with flaps and a much heavier cover (more like a real book and less like a magazine)... but I need to sell at least 500 books for that to happen!
UPDATE: I've decided to make "Salted Wounds" available as an ebook! Starting at $7, all levels of contribution will get a digital version of the book, including everyone who already signed on to get the printed book and other perks!
In other words, everyone who contributes $7 or above will get the ebook!

Good Cause
I'd like to donate partial proceeds to a Hurricane Sandy charity, so if I raise enough and have enough left over after printing and shipping and all that, I certainly will, and will keep everyone updated on the status. I was laid off fairly recently myself and still have repairs I've yet to do from roof damage that caused a leak into my own home, but I'm absolutely the type to share when I can! The more books I pre-sell here, the more I can keep the production costs down and the more I'll be able to donate!
UPDATE: Now that I've reached the goal, I'll definitely be able to donate partial proceeds to a Hurricane Sandy relief charity... I haven't decided how much yet, or which charity, so keep your eye on the updates! The more books I sell, the more I'll be able to donate, so share with everyone you know :D
UPDATE 2: See the updates page for more details, but I've decided on the organization where part of the proceeds will be donated to... it will be The Robin Hood Foundation. They do great work, and have assured me their Hurricane Sandy grantees will continue to receive money as long as donations are coming in. They have already granted millions of dollars to many worthy organizations helping people impacted by the storm.
FYI on PayPal:
My husband and I share a paypal account, so if you see his name (Antonio) when you go to make your contribution, don't fret! That's the right place :)
