The Osa Santuario de Animales is the only center in the southern zone of Costa Rica, dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of the exotic wildlife of one the most bio-diverse regions on the planet. The challenges we face are many, the odds are against us and time is short but we are prepared to battle to save each and every animal and bird that arrives at our gate. To do this effectively, we desperately need your help.
My name is Mike Graeber and I have been involve with animal and bird rehabilitation for more then 40 years. Now, I am the director of O.S.A.

This poor guy was hit directly in the face by a rock.We thought that he was going to lose at least one eye, some teeth and his sense of smell. The good news is that we got to him early and it looks like his eye might be ok...IF WE WHERE NOT HERE, his future would have included severe infection and probably death. It remains to be seen how this story ends, but we have high hopes for a good recovery! PLEASE HELP US CONTINUE TO HELP ANIMALS LIKE THIS.
Costa Rican laws have zero tolerance for people who capture wild animals for pets and they are beginning to enforce the law rigorously. Large fines and jail time is the normal punishment, and this is causing a flood of over domesticated and confiscated monkeys and parrots to be brought to us by the authorities. Many arrive here every week. Also many animals are taken from animal poachers and brought to us by the authorities, we receive several every month, then there are the animals that have been injured by cars and trucks, un insulated power lines (all power lines are un insulated in Costa Rica), dogs and many other causes. Their numbers are staggering and finally are the baby animals and birds that arrive here, usually orphaned, abandoned or confiscate. But always in need of a chance to survive.

This is Ruby. She was a illegally held captive. When the dirt bag owners realized that a huge fine was coming their way, they brutally yanked out her gorgeous,30 inch tail feathers worth hundreds of dollars, rendering Ruby both flightless and therefor, defenseless and dumped her along the road. She was rescued as she fought for her life against two dogs.WITHOUT O.S.A. this beautiful creature would already be dead.It will take a year and a half for her to produce new tail feathers and be able to fly again. BUT,WITH YOUR HELP, Ruby will one day return to the skies..(available for adoption)
OSA currently is home to 45 animals and birds, all have been discarded pets, permanently disabled or hand raised babies and each week more and more creatures arrive, this is why we need your help.
Please take a look at this link, it explains much about the urgency of meeting our funding goals.
Where your money will go
100% of all money donated will go to expansion and improvement of this animal sanctuary, to heal and save as many injured creatures as we can and to create permanent living habitats for as many disabled and over-domesticated animals as come to us in need of a place to live out there lives.
Your contribution will also allow us to set up a nursery for baby animals and birds. As well as set up a veterinary emergency clinic and improve our rehab and release area so we can return as many creatures as possible to the jungle.
