WHATS HAPPENING:

The SoJam A Cappella Festival in North Carolina is in its 11th year, of reaching out to the most talented people in a cappella and challenging them to challenge, educate and inspire. This is done through workshops, performance, and competition.

This year, The Sedoctaves have been chosen to perform at SoJam through "aca-bombs" (small pop-up performances throughout the festival). We are incredibly excited about this experience and are working toward rehearsing our best set yet. But in order to perform we need to get there.

That's where you come in!

We need our fans, and the fans of a cappella, to help us afford the trip to the beautiful state of North Carolina. We are also hoping that if we exceed our goal we can fund other fun shows and events (and possibly a new CD).

HISTORY:

There was once a young girl who loved to sing. Her name was Stefanie Roberts, and she dreamed of filling the world with delicious and satisfying a cappella music. In high school, she sang and sang and sang, and she was happy. But when high school was over in 2004 and Stefanie came to the University of Florida, she discovered a world filled with silence. No four-part harmonies echoed from the halls of this hallowed learning institution.

"This will not do," said Stefanie. "I have an idea."

So in 2005 she summoned her friends Jenna Tuttle and Lisa Musselman, who also loved to sing, and they sat and talked about her Idea. They talked and talked and talked, and occasionally one of them had to use the restroom, but mostly they kept talking. When they were done talking, The Sedoctaves were born.

The idea was a gathering of the finest singers in all of UF into an all-singing, all-snapping a cappella group of the highest quality. They would sing old favorites as well as new songs the young folk so loved to listen to. The three girls rejoiced and scheduled auditions. A handful of incredibly exceptional individuals were accepted. There was even more rejoicing.

Since their founding in 2005, The Sedoctaves have taken Gainesville by storm. They placed 2nd in Talent Night in 2010 and 2011, and won 1st place in 2012! The first place prize was the ability to perform on stage at Gator Growl, the nation's biggest student-run pep rally in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

The Sedoctaves roadtrip each November to North Carolina to partake in SoJam, an a cappella festival, competition and workshop extravaganza. They've seen The Boxettes, Fork and Pentatonix live - and are still fangirling about them all. The girls competed in ICCA Southern Quarterfinals in 2011 and will be returning to the competition stage in 2014. In between traveling to workshops and rehearsing in the MUB, The Sedoctaves love performing at tailgates during football season, Reitz Colonnade during class changes and various community events and fundraisers. And if that's not busy enough, they've played host to several all-male a cappella groups from Ivy League and midwestern universities (we're talking about you, Derbies and Chords).

The Sedoctaves are bringing sassy back to Gainesville, and really everywhere else, too.
