This film is intended to show the realities of war. Not just on the battlefield but the struggles and battles veterans face at home. 22 veterans commit suicide everyday including a friend of the Marines in this film. We are going to dig into the lives of the Marines, their struggles and hopefully in the end we all will be inspired.
In 2007 and 2008 I deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan. And in those two different wars I got to serve with some of the bravest men I will ever know. Two of them who are extra ordinary to me is Elmer Ugarte and Richie Weinmaster.
Ugarte was a Marine Machine Gunner and while conducting a patrol he was shot in the chest by a sniper. He should not have lived, but his will to survive, and to tell his story far surpassed the will of the enemy to end him. He wants to tell his story, his life, his wounds and his future. Not a single man is as inspirational at him and it is time everyone got to hear about it!
Weinmaster was a Marine Riflemen, and during a patrol his squad was ambushed. They took six casualties in that ambush but there would have been more if Weinmaster would not have sacrificed himself to shield his fellow Marines from an enemy grenade and still continued to fight off the enemy ambush. His actions awarded him the Navy Cross which is the second highest medal for bravery this country can bestow. He too should not have survived his wounds.
These men, injured one year apart from each other both became friend in the hospital. Even though they live far from each, they both share the same will to survive and inspire those around them to never give up.
Always Survive
