Setting a World Record in Afghanistan
Many people only think about the fighting in Afghanistan.
However, the International School of Kabul (ISK), is working to change that by
showing the unity of Afghanistan and displaying the hope of the Afghan
people. ISK’s students, staff, parents, and friends will be attempting to
make the longest paper doll chain on the planet. The dolls will be 8
different colors representing each distinct ethnic group within
Afghanistan. The current record is 8,803 ft or 2,683 meters, ISK will be
attempting a doll chain that is approximately 3,000 meters, made up of more
than 100,000 dolls. All funds collected will be used to provide
scholarships for our students who cannot come to ISK without financial
assistance. Instead of sitting back and watching the bad news come out of this
country, be a part of our effort to bring education and hope to Afghanistan!
• The International School of Kabul is the only
internationally accredited, co-educational PreK-12 school in Afghanistan. We
have approximately 360 students from all major ethnic groups and economic
strata. ISK is one of the few places where kids from such various backgrounds
interact as equals. ISK recruits native English speakers, mainly from the
United States, to come and teach. These teachers generally make 25%-50% less
than they could in the US. We're not here for the money, we're here for the
people!
• Students who graduate from ISK have an 80% rate of
college acceptance and our 100+ graduates attend Universities in Afghanistan,
the US, India, the United Kingdom and lots of other countries.
• We intend to break the Guinness World Record and show
the hope that lives in the hearts of the Afghan people. In conjunction with
this, we hope that you will partner with us to provide scholarships for Afghan
children who would otherwise be unable to attend ISK. Running a school in
Afghanistan is expensive; security, books, facilities, and everything else it
takes to run a school are just as important as anywhere else but are made far
more challenging when working in Kabul.
• Without scholarships from ISK, many of our students
would be unable to attend this school. As of now, USAID provides money for
scholarships, however the demand for education has outgrown USAID's commitment
and we're hoping that you'll help! Also, as US and NATO troops leave
Afghanistan, the USAID funding diminishes. It would be a terrible shame for even one
of these students to be denied a great education simply because they did not
have the money. Currently, ISK is giving away more than $200,000 in unfunded
scholarships and we need your help to make up the difference!
Give the Gift of a Great Education
Here's the deal. More than 1 million children in Kabul are not
in school. Our mission is to give as many children the chance at a great
education as possible!
• We're hoping to raise at least $100,000. When
scholarships go unfunded, we do our best not to send the students home.
Instead, the money for them to come to school comes from other places in our
budget like updating our curriculum, technology updates, facility renovations,
and teacher and staff salaries. We need your help to give these children the
best education possible.
• Depending on your donation you could get things like a postcards, student art pieces, a hand-made Afghan rug, or even a trip to Kabul!
• Even if we don't meet our goal, all funds collected will
go towards student scholarships!
The Impact
The International School of Kabul is owned by Oasis International Schools, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization,
and is fully accredited by the Middle States
Association of Colleges and Schools. All contributions made within the US are
fully tax deductible. :
• Afghanistan has been desolated by decades of war. It is
going to take a long time for the country to be rebuilt, but the first step in
ensuring a successful future is a good education for the next generation of
Afghans. That's our mission, we hope it will be yours as well.
• ISK scholarships bring hope to students who may have
never had the opportunity for a strong education, even more so, the chance to
attend university upon graduation. Also, we seek to inspire our students not
only to better themselves, but to become community and national leaders to
ensure a better future for Afghanistan.
• All contributions made within the US are tax deductible,
we want to make it as easy and rewarding as possible when people give.
