The Story:
When pro surfer Chase Davis becomes the victim of a violent act, everything he cares about is stripped away: his girlfriend, his sponsors, his career, and the one thing left that connected him with his father -- the ocean. Left alone to heal at his mother's house, Chase contemplates whether he has anything worth living for.
And then he meets "Shadow."
Shadow is a three-legged dog who teaches Chase about perspective, to stop living in the past, and that a disability will only limit him as much as he lets it.
Behind the Story- from writer/director Autumn McAlpin:
I wrote this film because a few years back, I was diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth, a disease that affects my muscles and mobility. As I've entered the world of disability, I've been inspired by people with conditions far worse than mine who, like Shadow, seemingly have little left to live for. It is their examples of strength and courage that motivated me to make this film, and to explore how circumstances beyond our control refine us and ultimately define us.
The Goal:
We believe there's a real need in the entertainment industry for filmmakers with original stories to tell. Side Gig Productions seeks to connect with audiences by presenting relatable stories about real life. With SHADOW's stellar SAG cast and talented crew, comprised of some of the best and brightest from USC's film school, we intend to bring this story to a film festival near you.
