Diego Needs Your Support!
Who is Diego?
Born and raised in Uruguay, Diego A. Parra moved to Wales (United Kingdom) at the age of 16 to attend Atlantic College; an international United World College. Afterwards, Diego moved to the United States to attend Bard College, where he is a Senior studying film and human rights.
Diego’s creative and academic work links the personal and the political. He likes telling powerful emotional narratives that deal with questions of memory, change, family, politics and rights.
THIS IS ALSO MY SENIOR THESIS! :)
What is this Film About?
This Narrative feature (70mins), set in 2007, tells the story of Daniel, a 27-yr old theatre director from Montevideo, Uruguay who comes back home after having lived in the UK for 11 years.
Once back, Daniel begins working on a theatre project with a group of 4 middle-aged ladies from diverse socioeconomic and life backgrounds. Together, they prepare the play Assemblywomen by Aristophanes. However, what at first begins as a simple theatre workshop, becomes progressively infiltrated by the political backdrop of the country and challenges not only the making of the play but also everything Daniel thought to be true about his family and his past.
The film explores Daniel's past and present as he deals with the theatre workshop, the memories of his late mother and the Uruguayan Military Dictatorship, his complicated relationship with his father, his return to Uruguay and how the politics of the country has affected and continues affecting his life and his choices.
