Hiya! Welcome to Sharp Shooter!
In Sharp Shooter, Jamie, an adventurous, imaginative, and determined 5th grade tomboy, struggling with dyslexia, bravely teaches and learns that different does not mean disabled.

Inspired by
Annie Oakley, Jamie fights through her overwhelming frustration by dedicating her aim to the bull's eye of success. Many people believe that
Dyslexia is solely
the difficulty of reading, that d’s and b’s and sometimes p’s are backwards or
flipped, albeit true, however, it is so much more than that. With Sharp Shooter, I hope to instill courage and determination into those fighting through all of it, and insight for those who wish to know more. This project could act as a
tidal wave in changing the way people think, assess, and cope with learning
disabilities by influencing viewers to understand learning disabilities as
learning differences.

At age 10, I was diagnosed with Dyslexia, ADD, and Audio Processing Disorder. While these titles were professionally presented to me, they became slapped on like permanent labels with floods of judgment to quickly follow. For years I could not understand or view my differences as anything but a disability. I focused solely on my overwhelming inadequacies, constantly failing to reach ‘normalcy,’ while accidentally ignoring the realms in which I have succeeded. Over the years, I have developed certain mechanisms to cope with my LD's, I have learned to accept my LD's and try to keep in mind that I succeed and grow not despite, but because of my differences. For, while they do present a constant challenge, they have also provided me with many gifts. The goal with Sharp Shooter is to erase the tormenting shame that tags along with having a learning difference, and to demonstrate and appreciate the absolute advantages in having a differently wired brain, such as a dyslexic one.
