Hello, my name is Simone Frank. I am an up and coming Canadian Visual Artist to the World Stage.
Most recently I was invited to exhibit in the North Toronto Community Fall Art Show. (http://www.ntga.ca/)
Prior that I was invited to exhibit my works across China with the Shanghai Yude Exhibition Company (http://www.yudefang.com) and was unable to go due to lack of funds.
I survived a 2 month drug induced coma caused by a near fatal reaction to medication known as TEN. I was diagnosed with Lupus in 2004.
Due to the extraordinary efforts of holistic and allopathic practitioners, I am now pain free and healthy. Sadly, the side effects of the medication that I am taking to treat Lupus have a side effect of cancer.
The best thing a doctor ever told me was, “There is always a way,” and I believe her.
About Me
Much of my work is focused on overcoming hardship, sustainability and human rights.
Born in Toronto of Vincentian descent, the first piece of art Simone Frank produced was entitled 'Draw the Drapes'. At her mother's request to "draw the drapes", she did, then rendered them in crayon on lined paper. Impressed with the quality of her work, her mother quickly bought Simone her first set of oil paints. Simone Frank was three years old.
Exhibiting since 1991 in solo and group exhibitions, she has shown her work across Toronto, the GTA, Tokyo and in St. Vincent, Caribbean.
With a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Fashion Design from Ryerson University, 1993 and a Dean’s list Diploma in Graphic Design from George Brown College in 2009, she also holds a certificate from Humber College, Summer Workshop for Writers, 2003.
For her exhibition 'Free Spirits', at the Cameron House, 1994, and 'Spirit Guides' which toured St. Vincent and the Grenadines, 2000, Simone Frank was awarded a Toronto Arts Council exhibition assistance grant. She also was awarded a Writer’s Reserve grant from the Ontario Arts Council, 1997 for a work in progress, The Space of Love.
In St. Vincent she had three solo exhibitions, she has had solo exhibitions at Singer Gallery, Fragipani Hotel which is owned and operated by the Prime Minister’s daughter, and Lambi’s Yatch Club. She was interviewed twice on the radio while there.
In Toronto her gallery solo exhibitions were exhibitions at BAND, Toronto City Hall, Skeir Gallery, Artist Awake and A Space Windows. She also participated in a group exhibition at City Hall Toronto. Her work is part of the Chinese Canadian Business Association’s collection in Toronto.
If I am unable to travel to China, the funds will go towards other projects such as:
Converting a novel called, No More Kissing Frogs into a graphic novel and a film.
Completing a creative non-fiction novel called Morphine Dreams, which illustrates my experience in the Canadian health care system and my path to recovery,
The production of an installation that I will turn into a short film. It is called ‘Get Up’ and is inspired by working with Lawrence Fishbourne on a television set.
I have an ongoing exhibition at Mojo Music (http://www.mojomusic.ca/Contact_Us/Location_Hours.html) in Oakville of portraits of musicians. Go there to see ‘A Tribute to Whitney Houston.’ Purchasing a work of art from Mojo Music will support me in dream of being a world renouned multimedia artist.
