Social Story Songs by Brian and Chris is a collection of 11 educational songs that are specifically designed to teach social skills. Each song is accompanied with a full sized classroom poster that depicts characters exhibiting the song's desired social behavior, as well as lyric posters to help children learn the words and themes of the songs.
Social Story Songs was born out of necessity in working with children with severe to moderate disabilities; this project was inspired by our real classroom experiences. Addressing undesirable behaviors can often create anxiety and frustration, which leads to more inappropriate behaviors. We have found that by using song, we can address inappropriate behavior in a non confrontational and fun manner. As students learn the songs, behaviors can be corrected by simply singing the lyrics to the child.
The purpose of the project is to provide teachers and parents with a valuable set of tools for working with children who are struggling with appropriate social behavior. With the Social Story Songs kit, teachers can correct problematic behaviors in a fun and exciting way, without causing additional stress and confrontation.
The Teacher Kit will include the 11 song CD and digital downloads, 11 full sized full color posters, digital PDF copies of the 11 posters, plus 11 digital PDF copies of full sized lyric posters.

Stretch Goals
Should we make it beyond our goal of $20,000 for our first run of Teacher Kits, we plan on reinvesting the money into our project. First, we can offer lower prices on the Teacher Kit, because we can produce them in larger numbers at reduced cost. We can begin working on writing and recording our second volume of songs. Also, it is possible we could begin work on additional classroom materials, such as video content, lesson plans, organizing a live performance, and much more.
Risks and Challenges
The beauty of the project is that the most difficult part of the work is already done. During the winter of 2013, we were able to write and record all 11 songs for the album. We already have all of the necessary artwork, the last phase of our project involves mass producing a teacher/parent friendly kit that has the CDs and all 11 full sized posters. The problem we have encountered is the cost of producing a teacher kit that is of professional quality. Printing full sized, high quality colored posters is extremely expensive. The larger the printing run, the lower the cost of production per unit. With successful fundraising, we can offer the 11 full sized posters and a copy of the CD at a reasonable cost.
