Short Summary

Some Things Won't Sleep is a short film about a woman who, in the wake of discovering her husband is having an affair, does the most horrific thing possible in order to save her marriage.

While this film is filled with suspense and elements of horror, it also comes with an unexpected twist, giving the film an extra layer of depth beyond what one might come to expect from a typical genre film. The film poses to us the subtle question: is it right to sacrifice a piece of ourselves for the preservation of our family, or is that sacrifice in fact a betrayal of ourselves?

We have been working on this film since November of last year. And having already received support as participants in this year's National Screen Institute Drama Prize, we are now just about ready to make the film.

All except one small thing... we need to raise the other half of our budget!

What We Need & What You Get

Your contribution to this project will help us produce a film that both we, and you, can be proud of. The end goal is to make a film as beautiful as it is thought-provoking for everyone to see and enjoy. Our goal as artists is to inspire people the people around us, and we hope that this project inspires you to look at the world a little differently, and to pursue your own dreams of making beautiful things.

Making a film, even a short one, costs a lot of money! Everything from compensating and feeding the cast and crew, the location, transportation, equipment, art design, cutting and coloring the film- it all adds up VERY quickly as you can imagine.

But in trying to make this project as exciting as possible, you're going to get a lot of great stuff in exchange for your donation. Such as...

  • access to behind the scenes of our filmmaking process
  • a free copy of the film + a copy of Leah's last film, Another Man
  • stills from the movie
  • limited edition prints
  • free conceptual photo shoots from Leah!

The Filmmakers

LEAH JOHNSTON (writer/director) is an actor/director and fine-art photographer dividing her time between Los Angeles, CA and Halifax, NS. Since moving to the US at 17, she has performed in TV shows such as As the World Turns and Gossip Girl, with her photographic work being exhibited in galleries throughout Los Angeles and magazines around the world.

Her first short film, Another Man, which she directed/wrote/produced on a shoe-string budget of $200 was recently selected to screen at the Montreal World Film Festival and Atlantic Film Festival.

This short will mark her first filmmaking project with a full crew (phew!) and professional cast. She hopes to create this film at the highest caliber possible in order to bring awareness to the issues of family, commitment and sacrifice, being explored in the film.

ANDRÉ PETTIGREW (producer) is an emerging producer based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He received a BBA in International Business from Bishop’s University and has worked in several different fields. After traveling and living in various cities throughout Canada and Europe, he moved back to Nova Scotia in 2010 where he began working in the local film industry.

Over the past few years, he has gained extensive experience from working on various productions in different departments. Applying what he has learned from his time on set and in the production office, he recently started a production company where he plans on developing and producing future productions. Some Things Won't Sleep will be his first short film as a producer.
