Sounds of Steam is coming up on its one-year anniversary, and we have you - our listeners - to thank for that. Your feedback and loyalty have been absolutely crucial to our success as a radio show. This is a community endeavor and we could not have done it without you.
As we approach our anniversary, we're excited to see how dramatically we have grown in the past eleven months, adding multiple radio stations and hundreds of listeners in dozens of countries. We're also touched to know we have helped hundreds of bands, authors, conventions, crafters, organizations, and people live their dream.
Now, we want to raise the bar and step up to the next level. Since the first episode we have thought about doing remote and/or mobile broadcasts. For example, running a panel at a convention with guests and recording it to play on air the following Monday. We have had three or four major conventions show interest in this, and we want to move forward and make it happen.
Bottom line: we want to take this show on the road!
Helping us will improve the listening quality of each show by allowing us to purchase new equipment and the software we need. It will also allow us to record a live show at various Steampunk events and conventions across the country, and maybe even have YOU on the show!
What We Need...
To raise money for the necessary equipment we are doing this crowd-funding project. Our greatest resource has always been you, the Steampunk community. As we shared artists, writers, bands, singers, convention creators, crafters, designers, engineers, and other creative geniuses with you, it was you that kept our show relevant and interesting. We have talked about you, linked you, tweeted you, and connected you to the public and the public to you. Now we need YOUR help! We have set the minimum goal as $3000. This will allow us a very specific shopping list of equipment:

Faery Steampunk Shoes by Hannah Titania (Actual item not shown)
A Steampunk Pin-up and Fashion Magazine published quarterly by Antarctic Press. Steampunk models & celebrities in intricate, neo-Victorian garb; reviews, interviews, artistic expressions, and even some prose thrown in for good measure. Veronique Chevalier graces the cover of Issue # 6, as well as being featured in an exclusive pictorial and interview between the covers.
Veronique Chevalier's "Polka Haunt Us: A Spook-tacular Compilation" This ODD-itory trip around the world makes EVERY day Halloween! The world's first Gothic Polka collection, each track on PHU is based on authentic spooky lore from around the world. The indigenous music of the tale is then combined in unholy alliance with polka, thus rendering a veritable "Sonic Frankensteam!" It's a musical wild ride around the world via scary story!
If we don’t reach our entire goal we will start with the basics, and fill the list above starting at the top and working our way down.
Stretch Goals!
If we go above and beyond our initial goal, we will delve into this list of awesome coolness:
$5000 - We will get a second computer setup for Wendy so she can also do mobile broadcasts.
$7500 - We will upgrade all our above list to bigger and better. We will also design and make a Steampunk Babe-ette Fett outfit, complete with leather mini skirt for Wendy, and post photos!
$10,000 - We will plan our schedule to visit and record a live show at four different conventions in 2014! And we will design and make a Steampunk Teddy Roosevelt outfit for Travis, and post photos.
$15,000 - We will plan a visit to a Steampunk convention overseas in 2014. And we will commission a full Steampunk faery outfit, including wings, for Travis and a Faery Safari Hunter outfit, with man-sized butterfly net (for catching Steampunk Faery Travis) and real hair moustache for Wendy, and attend a convention dressed like this.
To infinity and beyond! - We will add more stretch goals as necessary!
