Stand Up For Shorts will take place at the Star and Shadow Cinema on the 3rd of July. YOU MUST ARRIVE BETWEEN 18:30 AND 19:00, NO LATER. It will bring you a showcase of the best in short film making and stand up comedy from the North East of England.
There will be a magnificent array of films being shown, ranging from comedy to thriller and even with a little documentary thrown in for kicks. If you’re an avid cinema goer or a casual consumer of movies, there will definitely be something here for you!
Once you have seen the films we will move into the bar where you will be holding your guts in laughter as the fantastic line up of local comedy acts break onto the stage raring to make you spit your drink out all over the guys head in front of you.

Office Worker
Office Worker is about an average man who works in an average office environment. He is frustrated and tired of the pettiness that comes with working in such an environment. Office Worker is a release of such frustrations. The film follows the rant of the office worker as he expresses all his built up aggression against the company he works for. The procedures involved, the pettiness, the structure of the business, the management. Throughout his rant the office worker's imagination comes into play as he plays out his fantasies within his own mind. Office Worker is an observation of the office environment and comments on the nightmare that is involved with such a career choice.

David Adamson – Writer/Director/Producer
David graduated from the University of Sunderland in 2011 and from there went on to start his own production company with two of his fellow graduates in 2012. Juggernaut Productions has been the driving force of David’s film making and has helped him to produced, direct and film a number of different projects. David is a huge fan of the comedy genre and would like to continue to make films in this field in the future.

Ben Iland – Director, Producer
Ben has worked on award winnings shorts, sketches, music videos and adverts. His wide range of film making ability is enhanced by a love of film, old and new, and the theory that comes hand in hand with cinema.

When a young criminal attempts a carjacking, he soon discovers that he is not in control of the situation he has entered and that his supposed victim is much more dangerous than him.
Dan Hewitt – Writer/Director
Dan Hewitt is a screenwriter, producer and director. After spending his first year at university focusing on directing, he soon realised his real passion was writing. He now spends his time writing short films and feature films to self-produce and for competitions.

David Cave – Writer/Director
UK based filmmaker David Cave graduated from film school in 2000 returning to his native North-East to forge a career in film production. David has worked on a number of both British and International feature films including The One and Only (Dir. Simon Cellan-Jones) and The Skulls (Dir. Rob Cohen), television productions including BBC Zenith North’s Byker Grove and ITV’s Wire In The Blood as well as many commercials and short films.
David has written, produced and directed a number of no-budget short films and in 2003 and 2010 two of David’s short screenplays were commissioned by Northern Film & Media/UK Film Council to be produced through their digital shorts film scheme. David’s work has been screened at many International Film Festivals around the world where his films have received numerous awards.

Andy Wilton – Writer/Director
Andy Wilton is a professional filmmaker with over 12 years in the business and is the proud co-owner of Once upon a Tyne Productions. He has directed corporate work for clients such as Nike, ASDA, Orange, Mitre, Newcastle United and the Princes Trust. "Behind the Scenes of TOTAL HELL" is his first feature film and has it's had good global reviews, including a piece in the Guardian.

Gavin Williams - Director
Gavin is an award-winning writer and film maker based in Newcastle. He has been commissioned across film/TV, theatre, multimedia and prose by a range of publishers, production companies and broadcasters, including Yorkshire TV, Channel 5, Carlton TV, Durham Gala Theatre, Penguin, Random House and Ubisoft. Gavin's first short film as a writer/ director, BREATH, was funded by the UK Film Council. His first novel, HUSH an apocalyptic supernatural horror novel written with Tim Lebbon, was short-listed for Best Novel in the British Fantasy Awards. Writing as Alex Sharp he wrote the original tie-in novel, “DRIVER: NEMESIS”, set in the universe of Ubisoft's best-selling Driver videogame franchise for Corgi/ Transworld. He also worked on the Royal Television Society-winning ARG, “Time Machine”. Gavin is currently developing a scifi horror film project, FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS, with Shudder films. FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS has received funding from NFM and Teeside University's Digitalcity fellowship scheme. Gavin won a Northern Promise Award in the Northern Writers Awards 2011

Andrew Leckonby - Writer-Producer-Director
Andrew has a Media Practices with Scriptwriting Degree from the University of Bedfordshire. Since 2001 Andrew has worked as a freelance editor on various UK projects including short films, music videos, corporate videos, documentaries and music concerts. He has written and directed many shorts including "Lock & Key" (2004), funded by UK Film Council and Northern Film and Media. He then went on to form Lost Weekend Films with a small group of like-minded passionate filmmakers in 2005 until 2009. They made shorts as a communal collective, which they broke up amicably in 2009, then Andrew went on to form Hydra-X Films with John Raine and Graham Lee. Writing and directing projects with John Raine they first collaborated on award-winning short "Repercussions" (2009). He has worked with award-winning horror author Stephen Laws, on the supernatural short "The Secret" (2012), as well as working on music videos with Hip-Hop artist Shaz. Andrew has just finished co-directing with writing partner John Raine, the first film in The Bad Samaritan series entitled "The Bad Samaritan Must Die!" He is now working with John on its sequel, "God Save The Bad Samaritan!" (2015). But before then he will be shooting his solo debut 90-minute feature film "A Kick In The Teeth! (2014), a killer-on-the-run thriller, this late summer.

Melanie Howd – Writer/Director
Melanie Howd formerly studied Performing Arts and is also an Anthropology/Sociology Graduate of Goldsmiths' College, University of London with an interest in documentary; she has worked in various roles within the creative industries including acting and more recently as co-writer/director of 'May Contain Nuts'.
Joanne McCormick - Director
Joanne McCormick born in 1985 is a filmmaker based in Newcastle upon Tyne with a background in documentary; May Contain Nuts is her first drama film. She is currently studying creative media production at Newcastle College.
The Vaults

“The Vaults” explores a day in the life of a unique North East England pub called The Museum Vaults. Opened in 1871, its past remains relatively unknown due to very few historic records being discovered, yet its unaffected eminence is legendary among both locals and visitors. The film discovers the present day story of the pub, as told by the people who drink there: Ale aficionados, football fans, students, the punk crowd, the gay crowd, the young crowd, the bar staff, the old folk who’ve been there for decades, and their dogs.

Laurie Cansfield - Director, Producer, Editor
Laurie studied Screenwriting at Tyneside Cinema, Digital Photography at University of the Arts London and Media Production at City of Sunderland College. His short narrative films have been finalists in two Arc Cinema filmmaking competitions. He is currently writing a feature length revenge thriller and working on the next Proper Pubs film, a part-scripted part-fly-on-the-wall ‘documentary noir’.
Comedians
Sean Turner
Sean is a surrealist comic and has been gigging on the comedy circuit for 4 years now. He was a search for a star finalist2013 run by Joungleurs and appeared in loaded magazine. He was also a Semi finalist of the Laughing Horse competition 2010. He has also had two month long shows at the Edinburgh festival
Sammy Dobson
Sammy Tinkerbell Dobson (no, really, her parents are that cruel - just look at those initials...) is new to comedy but trying hard. Not only to make you laugh, but to win over her Father who loved her imaginary sister more than he did her.
Stephen Frizzle
Stephen 'Friz' Frizzle is going to ruin your favourite songs. Armed with a piano, he quickly fires off rewritten versions of pop classics to be about more important subjects such as Grindr or Adrian Chiles. It's better than it sounds.
Seymour Mace
Despite looking like a slightly dishevelled and demented geography lecturer, he is a brilliant comedian. He crackles with childish energy, getting caught in flights of fancy and going off on strange tangents, but never loses sight of the gag. A performer worth the admission price alone. Edinburgh Fringe 'Most Promising Act' Award-winner, and Citylife comedian of the Year 2003.
