Within
Dhaka's 16 million population, an exciting community is brewing, and it's led
by a very small group of people. By forging a startup community
and by using the power of Internet, they're out to prove that despite many
problems they are building new and exciting businesses. This is their
story.
Who and Why I am making this film
Hi my name is Mustafiz. I am working as an
angel investor, marketer and a photographer shuttling between
Singapore and Bangladesh. I am making this documentary for 3
reasons:
1.To
tell the world that there are few amazing people working on some fantastic
ideas right here in Dhaka
2.Through
this film we want to build a startup community
3.To
tell all local startups that Startup Dhaka is here to help
Through
this short
documentary
(approximately 30 min), we want to inform the world that startup founders are experimenting with ideas
like Dugdugi in
music, Chaldal.com in
grocery shopping, Newscred in
news media, Urban Launch Pad in transportation, the list goes on. And to help
the community, organisations like
EMK, Shetu,
Google business group,
1
degree initiative and others have created places for exchanging ideas.
This
is Startup Dhaka, a story about possibilities.
And
your contribution will make it possible to bring this story to the
world.
When and Where will it be screened
The
film will be launched in YouTube and Chanel I (a local cable tv channel) in November (2013) during “Global Entrepreneurship” week. It
will be free for all to watch and share.
If
this
film interests you, please share it on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, or
LinkedIn. The more interest we have the better the film is going to be.

What We Need
We
need about TK.
671,500 or US$ 8,500 to
produce and properly share this film with the world.
In this campaign we have
set the bar at 8,500 USD, and are hoping we can raise a little more than that
(around 10,000 USD). The additional fund will be used to cover costs of 4% IndieGoGo’s fees (for successful campaign) and 3% third-party payment processors charge.
The funding will go towards the cost of
equipment rental, various post-production processes such as color
correction, the on-line mix, sound and keeping our team fed and hydrated in Dhaka. We have done everything we can to keep
costs as low as possible and most of the people working on the film are
volunteering their time to help make this possible.
Although digital cameras
have changed the way we are able to create films, the reality of filmmaking is
that it’s still an expensive enterprise, especially if you want your film to
have a polished look and sound. Even when making a short film, there are so
many practical costs to consider such as equipment, location, transportation,
etc. But we’ve still managed to condense our budget to a place where we are
able to save money without sacrificing production value. The majority of the
crew are donating their time, but there are still resources that we need to pay for.
What You Get
We appreciate any support
you're able to give!
Starting
from just $10 or Tk. 800, there is a funding level for
anyone interested
in supporting the film.
For as little as $20
(Tk. 1500), all individual
supporters will
be able to
get their name in the film. If you want to help out even more
then check
out the rest of the rewards: T-shirts, Associate Producer credits, Executive Producer credits,
etc.
We
also have levels for local companies and organizations to get involved
by sponsoring the film by getting their logo displayed.
If
you’re a business, organisation, or person who would like a customized reward
or sponsorship, please email me at startupdhaka@gmail.com to talk more about options.
