What is StartupBus Africa?
We are bringing together 40 highly experienced African and international entrepreneurs on a 5 day road trip from Harare, Zimbabwe to Cape Town, South Africa. During the trip we will pay visits to the local startup hubs and work with mentors from across our focus fields; mobile, healthcare and energy. At the end we will present our work to a panel of highly esteemed investors and entrepreneurs, and look forward to what the future holds for some of the disruptive ideas developed on the bus. One thing's for sure, the connections made will have a deep impact on Africa’s tech scene.

What is our goal?
We want to raise enough money to create a scholarship program, which will cover the travel expenses for African entrepreneurs. Our goal is not just to put on the most amazing startup competition ever; it is to grow the largest network of tested entrepreneurial talent on the planet, and to create a mutual understanding and connectedness between entrepreneurial experts from all cultures and backgrounds. We know that the power of entrepreneurship can change change the world.
Who will be on the bus?

The 40 participants will have a vast mix of backgrounds and will be selected from hundreds of applications. Half of them will be from Africa and half of them from the rest of the world. We connect and develop experts from three disciplines: engineering, design and business. The interdisciplinary teams will be working on their own ideas.

Why Africa?
We want to use the enormous growth of the African tech industry to address some of the problems that the continent is facing. The mobile sector represents for 4,4% of the African GDP, that means $32 billion to the Sub-Saharan African economy. There are 500 million mobile connections alone in 2013, projected increase by an additional 50% till 2018. The mobile phone is basically the PC of emerging and developing countries. We support women's entrepreneurship and have a women's quota of 30%.

Why Indiegogo?
Although we are working with sponsors to support our trip we need funds to cover all our expenses. By backing our Kickstarter project you’ll help us fund the first StartupBus Africa run and enable people with ideas from around the world to work on their idea. Our goal of $10,000 will cover the significant costs of renting a bus and low-cost accommodation.
