Sunplugged-on-Hudson

Greetings! My name is james dean conklin and i'm part of a solar-powered band called Solar Punch. We have been using solar-energy exclusively to power our gear and sing about climate challenges and environmental issues since 2007. We work in New York and India, learning about new and old green tech as we go, and sharing solutions whenever and wherever we find them.

This coming May 18th, we will join with many of our local green entrepreneurs and activists in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, to communicate, celebrate and share the positive, real-world examples of where these solutions are in place and working right now.  On a beautiful park next to the mighty Hudson River, artists, musicians, scientists, technologists, environmentalists and activists will bring the good news - there is a green future on the horizon and we're headed towards it!

Bio-gas & bio-digesters, waste-to-energy schemes, composting, solar electric, solar cooking, recycling, up-cycling, organic gardening - mostly simple yet effective modes and methods to reduce energy consumption, remediate environmental insults and ensure best practices for safe, happy, healthful lives.

We believe providing positive models and examples to answer these intense eco and climate challenges is the most effective way to inspire and motivate. We hope you do too!

What We're Asking for and How we'll use it

We're asking for a modest $3,500 to help pay the musicians, pay for a small bank of batteries for our off-grid solar set-up and help defray the cost of our raffle prizes and 'give-aways'

  • A major component of this event is music.
    • We know from experience that music is one of the best ways to gather people together, transmit information and celebrate.
    • We are working with local Folk Music collective Tribes Hill to bring some of the area's top talent to our solar-stage. This stage will have plenty of capacity for the random Marshall stack and / or sensitive keyboardist!
  • Musicians
    • Hope Machine featuring Fred Gillen Jr. & Steve Kirkman - activism, optimism, ism, ism, ism.
    • Solar Punch, original music about the environment and Bollywood hits! Bhot Acha!
    • Roshni, featuring meditations, Sanskrit Mantras and devotional folk music. Ohm Shanti.
    • More to be announced soon...
  • Perks
    • Copies of CDs from our musical entertainers
    • Posters with unique art designed for our event
    • Solar Lanterns for your next camping trek or power-outage
  • To Goal or not to Goal
    • If we reach our goal, Huzzah!! Thank You!
    • If we DON'T reach our goal - Huzzah!! We'll take whatever we can get!

Look, this is going forward and its important.

We see and hear an unbalanced mix of negative and pessimistic news & opinions about our country's renewable energy prospects. We are going to change the tenor and tone of the conversation by providing models of how these things work, stories and evidence from individuals involved in solutions-based livelihoods and a delicious blanket of warm and hopeful songs and sounds from our beautiful musicians.

This event is meant to showcase the positive. And it Will!

And to repeat our main sentiment from above = We believe providing positive models and examples to answer these intense eco and climate challenges is the most effective way to inspire and motivate. We want to be the change we hope to see in others.

We hope you do too!
