Short Summary
The Surfer Joe's was born in 2003 from an idea of Lorenzo Valdambrini to create a great event dedicated to the Italian surf music scene. This soon grabbed the attention of the international audiences and public started coming from all over the world to see the amazing line up's of surf bands put together for the festival weekend. Since 2008 Lorenzo's brother, Luca, joined Surfer Joe Music for the organization of the party and the festival went big, definitely breaking the Italian borders and gaining a reputation as the world's #1 surf music festival.
Our purpose is to keep this event FREE to everyone. Surf music is brilliant, incredible, it's fun, but since middle 60s there has been too little attention in its diffusion. We mainly want to show it, to attract new fans and to demonstrate how great are the cultural, musical and technical aspects related to it.
Costs are very high. The festival is outdoor and the authorizations required, the structures installed and the logistics problems are getting heavier every year. But we need to keep it FREE to continue giving the public and the bands a goods life experience and an excuse to meet every year, making new friends and fans.
Sponsors and external support are going down, the crisis hits us like anyone else, but we cannot stop doing what we love. Bands want to come to play, people wants to come to see the concerts: please help us to make everybody happy!
What We Need & What You Get
The funds are used to support two major costs:
- STRUCTURES: we need a decently sized stage, the location can easily hold up to 6.000 people so we need everybody to see the bands good. Also it is a matter of proudness: surf music needs the attention and the size that it deserves!
- ARTISTS: everybody is putting his energy into this event and the bands come from all over the world for a very little refund. They don't ask to make money. But when you have a line up of 14-20 bands, plus accommodation for all, those expenses are going crazy! But - hey - we are talking about some of the most incredible program of concerts in this music scene and bands that people has been willing to see for years.
We don't ask you for an admission, we keep food and drinks the cheapest possible, but on our heads there are huge bills pending...
So my friends, what we need is money... let's say it clearly. What we offer back is the biggest event for surf music ever organized since 1965.
We have a superb location on the sea, friendly people, good food, much beer and definitely lots of REVERB in the air...
The Impact
When you give us even a little contribution, you just make us understand that you really care about what we do with all our heart and passion, you just make us want to carry this all project on throughout the years, working hard, running between offices to get things done (you knwo how this is).
We have been dealing with partners to support us, like Fender in Italy, and we take the responsibility for the expensive instruments they borrow us. We have been trying to join again surf music and surf sport many times, and people appreciated this: we brought many surfers to love surf music again!
So trust us, we invested so much in the past and lost much too to arrive where we are now. On 2010 the Surfer Joe's made 6.000+ people in 3 days, isn't it incredible for a music genre that someone considers "forgotten"?
