Greetings and good day to everyone!

Over the past forty years, SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK® has represented the varied voices and dedication of 23 different women; their values of gratitude, commitment, love, courage, and spirit have propelled the group into a globally revered and treasured a cappella ensemble. We're very proud of our rich legacy and the musical path we've forged which has touched people from all cultures, ethnic backgrounds, and walks of life around the world. In the beginning (1973 with Mie, Bernice Johnson Reagon, Louise Robinson and Carol Maillard), we never dreamed or imagined that the music and messages we've dedicated so much of our lives to would endure and remain vital as we embark and celebrate our fortieth anniversary next year, SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK'S® 40TH ANNIVERSARY: FORTY AND FIERCE.

Our fresh configuration and fearsome foursome, Louise Robinson, Carol Maillard, Nitanju Bolade Casel, and Aisha Kahlil are forever indebted to you, our fans, for your love, loyalty and support all these years, and we're taking a huge leap of faith with our first entry into this new funding paradigm by enlisting you to support us in our debut fundraising launch ever with Indiegogo.  We did a lot of talking, soul-searching, and brainstorming and ultimately felt that the independent spirit that has fueled all our artistic endeavors and  been the driving force to sustaining our  longevity as an a cappella ensemble couldn't be better served than by partnering with you and Indiegogo on this milestone venture. Our fundraising challenge and goal is to raise $35,000.

We're asking you to join us and our indie company, SHE-ROCKS 5® Productions, and become our partners in helping make "FORTY AND FIERCE" our most successful anniversary ever. We want you to celebrate our anniversary theme and core values; gratitude, commitment, love, courage, and spirit, which are embedded and have been motivating forces in our mission as artists. You will be contributing to the very embryonic stages of us developing and creating our most ambitious and adventurous live performance show to date. It will be our first scripted show, helmed by noted Director/Choreographer Dianne McIntyre, and will feature several new original compositions, medleys comprised of some of our post popular songs, special guest musicians and vocalists, and intimate and personal stories by each member that will be woven into a retrospective look of our incredible journey.

FORTY & FIERCE will also be the most spectacular show we've ever presented technically. We're going to have incredible lighting, a visual fusion of archival film/video and still images, newly created performance costumes, special staging/set components, and a full range of musical components that you will experience from the time you enter the auditorium until the time you leave.

Every penny and dime you give will be invested in helping us deliver and give back to you. 

We're planning to tour FORTY & FIERCE in as many cities as possible throughout 2014, and already have commitments for performances at UC Berkeley's ZellerbachAuditorium, February 12th, the Music Center at Strathmore in Washington, DC., March 1st, and the prestigious "Celebrity Series in Boston" at Symphony Hall on March 2nd. 

We're also hoping to develop a FORTY & FIERCE television special and a commemorative CD comprised of forty of the most popular songs we've recorded from over twenty-three CD's we've released since our inception.

Our celebration of "FORTY & FIERCE" is our vision and a dream, and the only thing that is missing is you. Your support, however small it may be, will contribute to bringing our dream show to fruition. It will pay a wide range of production costs and expenses, from months of rehearsals, the rehearsal space and equipment, to paying for our guest vocalist and musicians.

 It will also be used to cover the costs of our Director/Choreographer, our costume designer, our lighting director, videographer, and our entire production team.

Each and everyone who decides to join and be a part of this historical process with us will become an integral part of driving our creative process, and every one of you will be appreciated and become a valued member of our extended family and global community.
