Great news, we will shoot the entire movie on the 'RED epic' a state-of-the-art cinema camera capable of focusing on a sweat droplet flung from a dancer's chin. This camera isn’t cheap but we hit close enough to the $19,500, we can now secure the RED Epic camera, accessories, lenses, and insurance for the shoot. We have received such amazing support its only right we put more of our skin in the game and make it possible to shoot on this amazing camera. We are so excited to bring SwingX to life, and from the response the project has received it is clear to us that you folks want to see this movie as much as we do!

Because of all the wonderful support we have received in the last week, we have not only hit our $12,000 goal, but exceeded it. This will open incredible new opportunities for increased production value.

So what are we going to do with the extra funding? Glad you asked! Our new plan is to shoot the entire movie on the 'RED epic'. What is the RED epic? It’s a state-of-the-art cinema camera used to shoot state-of-the-art films, including Iron Man 3, Resident Evil, The Hobbit, and The Great Gatsby. Why $19,500?

The RED Epic is one of the highest quality cameras in the business. This camera isn’t cheap, but fortunately, we have been able to get a pretty sweet rental deal on it. If we hit $19,500, we can secure the RED Epic camera, accessories, lenses, and insurance for the shoot. Currently we have less than $5,500 to go!

SwingX is happening thanks to you! The film will be shot in HD regardless, but the RED Epic will allow us to achieve a level of detail and quality that will truly capture the energy and enthusiasm of the swing scene. Capable of focusing on a sweat droplet flung from a dancer's chin, the RED Epic will bring a look and feel that will truly do justice to the work and passion that has already been poured into this project.

Who We Are

SwingX is being produced by Gex Williams and Brian Crone. Other team members include Kevin St. Laurent, Jo Hoffberg, Lee Clements, Ben Sandfoss, and Carsie Blanton.

Key team members have worked on a range of feature film projects including, the ABC-TV series Nashville, the FX movie Outlaw Country, Unrequited starring Twilight's Michael Welch and U-571’s David Kieth. Our lead talent have worked with Universal Studios and competed on CBS’s Live to Dance. Check out our team bios below for more information.

A Great Story

It's Office Space meets Swing Kids!

SwingX is a comedy about Colin, an unemployed security software specialist, who - through a case of mistaken identity - is hired as a dance teacher at a local school. Hilarity ensues as he tries to stay one step ahead of a vengeful hacker, a suspicious principal, and a gorgeous dance instructor. Action overcomes fear as he falls head over heels into the world of Lindy Hop.

SwingX uses the positive, high-energy world of Lindy Hop to demonstrate the benefits of overcoming fear and facing life's challenges head on.

Killer Dance Moves

You bring 'em, we shoot 'em!

The film will be choreographed by Kevin St. Laurent and Jo Hoffberg, two world-class Lindy Hop instructors and competitors who have dedicated their lives to promoting swing.

The lead roles in SwingX will be played by two phenomenal actors, Dax Hock and Sarah Breck. Dax and Sarah are kick-awesome Lindy Hop pros who travel the world spreading the joy of Jazz movement.

You Can Be In This Movie: The SwingX Lindy Experience (SLX)

Calling all dancers! Come get famous and carve your moves into the silver screen. You can’t have a good swing movie without great dancing! SwingX will use SLX to capture the high-energy buzz of a live dance floor.

Grab your friends and come to Cincinnati from July 5th - 7th for six killer dances where the SwingX crew will capture big dance and jam circle scenes for the film.

If you attend SLX, you will be in the movie.

SLX is not a Lindy Exchange. The weekend will feel like a hybrid of workshops, competitions, and social dancing. The schedule will consist of choreography sessions with Kevin and Jo, filming with live bands, and late night social dancing.

Why 12K?

We’ve already put in a lot of our own time and money to cover such things as housing, script development, office and legal fees, equipment, locations, cast and crew compensation, marketing, vehicles and transportation - and a whole slew of other production costs.

But, for SwingX to happen we need help with just a few additional costs:

Distribution

Making a movie consists of three main parts: Pre-Production (Planning), Production (Filming), and Post-Production (Editing). We've already finished most of Pre-Production and when this campaign is successfully funded we will launch straight into Production.

The film will not be available for public purchase right away, however, it will be immediately available to backers as soon as it is finished. We would like to showcase the film in theaters pending our distribution deal. If you want to guarantee an immediate copy, now is your chance to jump in and get one!

The Road Forward

1.) Shooting:

Filming SwingX is a huge undertaking. A year’s worth of scheduling, planning, and budgeting will come together during a marathon 18-day shoot lasting from June 24 through July 12, 2013. This hectic (but fun!) process requires tedious scheduling to line up actors, choreographers, and crew members for different portions of the shoot.

Producers Gex Williams and Brian Crone are excited about this process and have extensive experience in production and logistics. Check the bios below for more information on their experience in film, theatre, and business management.

2.) Editing:

The editing process is the culmination of all previous efforts on the film. All things visualized, scripted, filmed, and recorded for SwingX must be brought together and refined again and again. After the final “picture lock,” further audio sweetening and color correcting will bring the film to completion.

3.) Distribution:

Because of SwingX’s limited budget, only a small percentage will be allocated towards traditional marketing efforts. SwingX will use film festivals and the global network as a means of reaching larger studios to secure distribution. Regardless of who picks it up, SwingX will eventually be available for public viewing on Netflix, Amazon, and other digital distribution outlets.
