Outline
The Temple of Dissolution is a Burning Man-style temple to be built for the European regional event, the Nowhere festival. The Temple of Dissolution celebrates the liminal anniversary of ten years of the Nowhere Festival, by gifting a temple experience to this community in transition. The design of the structure and its practice are on a Nowhere scale and with Nowhere's limitations of being a "non-burn" Burn event in mind.
Design wise, the temple is a very simplified version of a basic Oriental temple, with the traditional Yin-Yang shape and the octagon of elements that surround it. In the middle of the Temple, a pond in Yin-Yang shape will provide participants the opportunity to dissolve either sweet or bitter memories, thoughts, beliefs, or whatever they want to let go off. They can write these things on soluble paper and ink, that can be placed inside of the pond and will dissolve. To speed up this dissolution, the centre of the Temple is open to sunlight, that can evaporate the water inside. On a daily basis, water will be added to the pond to facilitate a new day of letting-go!
Apart from that, we are currently working on the ability to write on the temple "walls" [made of translucent fabric] and having a way to 'dissolve' these walls as well!
Current status of the project
As for now, this project is still very much in development. We have a preliminary design and the dedication to bring this structure to Nowhere. One way or another! We are working out the details of the design, the placement of the Temple on the Nowhere grounds, getting together a construction crew, the budget, etc.
We need your help
Building and transportation costs of the Temple will amount to a total of approximately 2500 euros, including the Indiegogo fees. Nobody on the team will benefit financially from your donations: every single dime will be put to constructing the Temple and getting it to Nowhere!
That's a lot of money, that we can't raise without your help. But we think that for such a potentially powerful and emotional structure, we should do it justice by trying and build it this way. If we don't reach our funding goal, we will try and make a slimmed down version. If by a miracle the total raised amount will exceed this budget, we will add and refine enhanced elements to the Temple!
This money goes to buying of the materials: wooden poles, translucent fabric, and other construction elements. To the construction of the dissolution pond. To lighting the structure to facilitate participants going there at night as well. To dissolvable paper and ink. And to the total cost of transporting all the materials to the Nowhere site.
No money to help us out financially, but love the idea? Apart from this financial help, we need volunteers as well! So if you can't contribute with a donation, maybe you'd like to help out yourself? Either by being part of the construction crew, or maybe even being a Temple guardian on-site? Let us know how you'd like to contribute!
Reward
This is where things get complicated. Your reward would be something transitory and 'soluble' as well.
One of the principles of Burning Man is Gifting. "The value of a gift is unconditional. Gifting does not contemplate a return or an exchange for something of equal value." We would like to gift this temple experience to the Nowhere community. And we invite you to gift us the opportunity to gift this experience.
We have limited time and resources, and would like to dedicate them to actually building this temple. Also, we don't want to further raise the budget of our fundraising by adding a 'hidden' budgeted amount for perks. So no, no goody bags, no tokens, no VIP treatments. Just love and appreciation!
Your reward would be the immaterial knowledge that you have helped and contributed to bringing this structure to Nowhere. To enjoy the structure whilst attending Nowhere. Or, if you're not attending, to know that Nowhere attendants can live a part of the Burning Man experience because of you. What better reward is there, than gifting a true and meaningful experience to others?
