Texas Tokusatsu and You
Since the original release of Godzilla in 1954, there has been a strong presence of the Japanese special effects film genre, Tokusatsu. The biggest wave has crashed here in the states with the release of Pacific Rim, the 20 year anniversary of the Power Rangers franchise, and the next big release of a North American adaptation of Godzilla. We figured it was time our favorite cardboard city wrecking, spandex wearing, spark bleeding films got a fair showing.
Our friends at the Alamo Drafthouse thought so too. On May 15, 2014 at the Park North San Antonio location, we will be hosting the first annual Texas Toku Taisen.
What We Need & What You Get
We need your support! Anything you can give us, including just sharing this pre-sale campaign benefits Tokusatsu with exposure to events like this. We have a few levels established as our entry level passes, courtesy of Alamo Drafthouse. We'll have VIP packages with awesome event exclusive items up for grabs soon, courtesy of Heroes and Fantasies here in San Antonio.
Where is all of this money going, you ask?
- Screening rights to the films including Godzilla
- The cost to book the venue

Marketing and promotion of this event including many awesome contribution bundles that will be release on a later date.
With every package you receive recognition for being a contributor and founding sponsor to this event. Our packages start with a contributor's level at $5. This bundle is exclusive to our contributor's level package, which will come with said recognition during the event as well as a special raffle number for prizes to be announced in December.
Our other packages currently consist of:
- $35: This entry level package you access to all three screening rooms with panels and personalities along with a pass with entree promotion from Alamo Drafthouse usable on your next visit to the theater.
- $75:This package is for those of you looking to stay and play. You get all of the benefits previously, excluding the raffle number, an appetizer, and two free pints of any beer of your choice!
ALL OF THESE PACKAGES CAN BE UPGRADED!Our VIP packages will be revealed in December with event exclusive items secured by our friends over at Heroes and Fantasies.
The Impact
An event like this for tokusatsu seems like the next step in a genre of entertainment that is long overdue. The tokusatsu community along with the casual watcher can all get a dose of what they love, and learn more about many of these franchises. Your contribution will send a message to everyone across the nerd spectrum of the presence of this genre. With the success of this event, we're looking to do bigger and better for everything tokusatsu!
