Short Summary
The 8th Horcrux wants to release a "greatest hits" record; that's something I never thought I'd say! For over four years, The 8th Horcrux has been writing goofy song parodies of popular songs about Harry Potter. It's something that we just really love to do. When we were writing the songs for our third album "Noize From the Cupboard", we felt that we were nearing the end of the band. We didn't think that we would have it in us to record more albums. Well, we were wrong. Last summer, we released "Ridiculously Wicked" and it was a lot of fun. There's just something very cathartic about writing song parodies.
During the summer months, we usually tour around various local libraries. Promoting literature is something that is very important to us, and that's why we want to release this "Greatest Hits" album. After concerts, we often get requests asking for our CDs that have our Lonely Island parody, or our Owl City parody on them. Unfortunately, those CDs went out of first run print long ago (we didn't make that many of them to begin with), and I often have to tell our fans that we don't have them anymore. With this potential album, I'd like to fix that! As cheesy as this may sound, I can honestly say, we're doing this for the fans!
Granted, we've never had a true blue radio hit (although we have been played on the radio quite a few times), but we feel that we have enough fun songs that we could create one rockin' of an album. We just need the funding to allow this dream to come true. I want to pack this album with so much awesome that it explodes! I mean that metaphorically, but I assume you get the point.
So, What's Going to Be On It?
We're hoping to cram this disc with 20-25 of our favorites, as well as the songs that define us as a band. In a way, this is the ultimate culmination of our group; when we wrote our first parody four years ago, we were seeking this destination. There is something very awesome about sifting through albums and choosing the songs that best exemplify us as a band.
We're also recording a few newer songs so this release is extra awesome and worthwhile (we don't just want to repackage our old stuff... we want this to be new and cool). Look out for some recent top-charters to be parodied! In addition to new stuff, we also want to go back and polish our older songs and make them sound super-awesome. We might even completely re-record a few of them, to make them sound even better!
What We Need & What You Get
Currently, the biggest hurdle we have to face is funding. Once we have that in the bag, we're golden. We have all of the songs written and a good chunk of them recorded (we're writing new ones and will tweak older ones), and now we just need to get the discs pressed up.
Basically, this Indiegogo campaign functions as a semi-glorified-preorder. We want to know how many disc people are wanting, if they want them, and when, etc. Using the power of this site, we're hoping that we can get a good guess for how many people want a copy of this new disc. We're super excited about it!
