WHO ARE YOU?
Hey out there in internetland! My name is Gerald Torregosa if you don't know me. I'm a stand up comedian and filmmaker that would love your help.
WHAT DO YOU WANT GERALD?
I am currently enrolled in film school at the New York Film Academy in New York City. I am shooting my thesis film the week of July 29, 2013. I am in preproduction for a short film called "The All American".
WHAT IS THIS MOVIE ABOUT?
"The All American" is about a young man's journey in the crazy New York City dating scene. He happens to be of hispanic descent and believes that if he was white, that he would have more success with women. He makes a wish, and he gets to be a white person. Then the comedy ensues. Think of the movies "Big" with Tom Hanks or "Trading Places" with Eddie Murphy.
WHAT DO YOU WANT GERALD?
If you guys can help me achieve my goal, you'll help make a movie that is something much different than what you would see in a theater, but in a good way.
WHY SHOULD I HELP YOU?
I have been a stand up comedian for over five years. I have been studying filmmaking full time for the past year.
I moved to New York City a little less than a year ago and I have already become a regular at the Comic Strip in Manhattan. The same club that names like Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock and Jerry Seinfeld started in. I know how to write jokes.
On top of that my co-writer Alan Adams is a top comedian that has worked with people like Louie CK (yes the Louie CK) Bill Burr and Godfrey just to name a few. With your help you might be able to keep my career going and more importantly feed Alan's newborn child.
We both know that you don't have to help. But then the film will either not get made or will be made poorly. We both hope that you can contribute afterall anything helps. I hear homeless people say that all the time. Either them or PBS, I get confused.
If the film doesn't get made then MY PARENTS will fly to New York City and be completely disappointed in me. They will sit at the screening room at my school, stare at a blank screen, and just regret my existence.
I've already disappointed them so many times in life. So please a small contribution will help keep that from happening.
WHERE IS THE MONEY GOING GERALD?
As you already know making films is not cheap. The funds will go to things like
Compensating Actors
Food and beverage
location rentals
equipment rentals
props
The list goes on and on. I am planning on shooting on a RED Epic camera, which rentals start at $650 a day.
Also van rentals are a consideration. I will (hopefully) have a ton of equipment. When I say a ton, I mean the weight. Which becomes problematic when imagining me trying carry equipment onto the subway.
Since there's a van rental you know that means I'll need parking money. New York City is not fond of cars. However they are fond of taking your money to park your car or van.
I could keep going but I think you get the idea.
WHAT IS THE MOVIE ABOUT AGAIN?
It's about a brown man that wishes to be white. He thinks that he would have much more success with dating women if he was white. He wishes to be white, a black genie visits him and then the comedy ensues.
WHAT DO I GET OUT OF IT?
I will outline that on the right side of the screen. But more than that you will keep my mother from crying at night. She's already disappointed that I decided to not become a doctor, dentist, or lawyer. IF the movie gets made I graduate. IF NOT then I don't graduate and my father will think I'm a loser for the 15,000th time.
