Who we are
Arouet leapt into the Seattle theatre scene in 2011 with the intent to present artistic productions that speak of civil liberties and celebrate our differences. Since then, Arouet has produced critically and publically acclaimed productions, including the classic ‘The House of Bernarda Alba’ and Northwest premieres of ‘The Hen Night Epiphany’ and ‘The Temperamentals’.
Committed to bringing performing arts to the community, Arouet productions are interpreted for the hearing impaired when feasible. Arouet also participates yearly in Theatre Puget Sound’s Arts Crush, presenting collaborative and innovative productions for free at venues across the Puget Sound, from Edmonds to Tacoma. In 2012, we presented ‘Lawfully Wedded’. A collaborative piece including two playwrights, a poet, a musician, eight actors, and three directors working on pieces that dealt with marriage equality in advance of the now historic vote in November of 2012. We are not certain what the next collaborative piece will look like, but we are already talking about it.
As we prepare to present our Spring 2014 production of ‘Don Juan in Chicago’, we are busy planning our first three-play season in 2014/2015. We are on track to announce the season and venues by the end of February 2014.
What your contribution does
Your contribution allows us to secure rehearsal and performance space for all our productions, as well as production rights. It ensures the 2014/2015 season will be a reality.
What you get
First and foremost, our most sincere gratitude. Above that, you get bragging rights as someone who made art possible in Seattle. In addition, depending on the amount given, you receive one of the nifty rewards listed on the right. And since Arouet is an associated program of Shunpike, it’s all tax deductible. It’s a win-win situation. Unlike Don Juan’s Faustian bargain … but that’s another story, never mind.
Arouet’s Mission
Our mission is to present works that speak of tolerance, freedom and justice that celebrate our differences; we showcase works from celebrated playwrights both contemporary and classic, and are always on the lookout for exciting lesser known or new works.
