OUR STORY
Meet the AURA
team. Learn how you can help.
The AURA™
Breathalyzer by Ho International Design,
Inc.
Sleek,
innovative product design delivers a unique fashionable alternative and
transcends stigma.
The AURA™ Breathalyzer is a hand-held breath alcohol screening device
that utilizes electrochemical fuel cell sensor technology to analyze the
oxidation of ethanol within human breath samples. This device is intended to
provide an estimate of a test subject’s blood alcohol concentration (BAC),
based on the analysis of that subject’s breath sample.
Unprecedented
style, Inspired by Chic Fashion.
Being constantly exposed to the L.A./Hollywood nightlife
scene, we at Ho International Design Inc. (HIDI) are well aware that image and public perception have historically deterred the public and widespread
use of personal breathalyzers.
TO OVERCOME THIS OBSTACLE, we leveraged our background in fashion
and product design to create a chic, groundbreaking breathalyzer
specifically designed to reshape the world’s perception of responsible
celebration.
Precision.
In developing the
AURA™, we understood that matching its
breathtaking aesthetics with precise technology was an absolute
must. We firmly believe that the critical decision to operate a vehicle after
alcohol consumption should only be aided by the best available technology for
the everyday consumer.
As such, every
AURA™ unit integrates FUEL CELL sensor technology. Compared to less expensive semiconductor oxide sensors, fuel cell
sensors are far and beyond the more outstanding technology, and are used in most POLICE hand-held alcohol screening devices and most
COURT-ISSUED vehicle ignition-interlock
systems.

FUEL CELL
SENSOR TECHNOLOGY
Learn why YOU should invest in it.
All too often, we make the critical mistake of self-determining our
ability to safely operate a vehicle after recent alcohol consumption. While the
current blood alcohol concentration (BAC) limit of 0.08% is common knowledge
(within the USA), most of us fail to realize that one’s BAC cannot be accurately
estimated without the aid of a professional breathalyzer. The fact is there are just TOO MANY VARIABLES affecting a person’s
BAC (i.e. age, weight, gender, ethnicity, liver function, amount of food
digested, other drugs/medication) for any of us to know with certainty
where we stand at any
moment in time, if we were to only rely on generic BAC Charts from the DMV. Fortunately, the use of fuel cell
breathalyzers helps reduce guesswork and provides otherwise unattainable information.
While semiconductor oxide sensors have demonstrated the ability to detect
the presence of ethyl alcohol
(“ethanol”) in a person’s body, fuel cell sensors have proven to provide much more accurate estimates of
ethanol within a person’s breath. As such, we believe that settling for second-tier
semiconductor sensor technology is a poor investment. The difference in
accuracy and consistency between the two types of sensors is drastic and could make all the
difference in your future.

Ho International Design, Inc.’s warranty
obligations for this product are limited to the following:
Ho International Design, Inc. (“HIDI”) warrants the AURA™

Disclaimers
The AURA™ Breathalyzer is a hand-held breath alcohol screening device
that utilizes electrochemical fuel cell sensor technology to analyze the
oxidation of ethanol within human breath samples. This device is intended to
provide an estimate of a test subject’s blood alcohol concentration (BAC),
based on the analysis of that subject’s breath sample.
IMPORTANT – MUST READ
1. While there exists a
direct correlation between alcohol in the breath and alcohol in the blood, this
correlation is imperfect, and varies based on environmental factors (e.g., air
quality, wind, humidity, and temperature) and health conditions of the test
subject. As such, the exact BAC level of a test subject CANNOT be determined by
breath alcohol screening devices, including the AURA™ Breathalyzer. This device is NOT intended to provide the test
subject’s exact BAC level.
2. A BAC reading below 0.08%
from this device does not suggest or imply that the test subject cannot, or
will not, be charged with driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol. A
person may be charged with DUI even with BAC levels under 0.08%. The creators
of this device do not condone or support any level of drinking and driving. The
presence of alcohol in the blood impairs judgment, decreases physical or mental
performance, and delays reaction times, which can impair your ability to
respond to an emergency. As such, driving with any alcohol in your blood is
unsafe, and puts you at risk of a DUI.
3. Any act or failure to act
based on a reading from this product shall be at the test subject’s or user’s
own risk. Ho International Design, Inc. (HIDI) assumes no responsibility for
consequences to or of test subjects who use this product and later are shown to
have been under the influence of alcohol or to have had their judgment or any
mental or bodily function impaired by alcohol. HIDI expressly disclaims any
liability for direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages
of any nature under any legal theory. HIDI makes no warranties, express or
implied, as to the ability of this product to determine whether, or the extent
to which, a test subject’s mental or physical functioning, or judgment, may be
impaired by alcohol including whether the test subject is intoxicated under any
definition of that word.
About Us
Ho International Design Inc. (HIDI) was founded in 2012 by
Christopher Ho and Christopher Surapol, two young entrepreneurs who share a
vision of changing perception through design.
Christopher Ho began his higher education at the University of
California, Los Angeles (UCLA). After a year at UCLA, he transferred to the
globally-recognized Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) to
pursue his true passion as a designer and visionary. In addition to an
Associate's degree from FIDM, his background in fashion includes working
closely with world-renowned David Chu (founder of Nautica clothing brand) and
at William Rast (Justin Timberlake's clothing brand). It was at the latter
where he met and learned from Trish Rae, former designer for William Rast and
current denim designer for 7 For All Mankind. Together, Chris and Trish created
the groundbreaking AURA design you see today.
Christopher Surapol completed his Bachelor's degree in Economics
from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and earned his Master's
degree in Accounting from the University of Southern California (USC). He is a
certified public accountant (CPA) and a former employee of Deloitte & Touche
LLP, one of the world's largest "Big 4" accounting firms. After
several years of developing his expertise in business and accounting at
Deloitte, he joined HIDI to help turn the AURA idea into a reality.
Risks and Challenges
We have identified the following risks and challenges, and have
included below our plans to overcome them.
CREATING AWARENESS:
We truly believe we
have an outstanding product. We are confident that someone looking to invest in
a personal breathalyzer for themselves or others will choose ours over the
competition. However, the real challenge is getting people to understand/admit
the benefits of purchasing a personal breathalyzer. Many people unknowingly put
their futures at risk because they don’t have access to the otherwise
unattainable information gained from the use of breathalyzers. We are hopeful
that our innovative product design will increase overall awareness about the
importance of protecting themselves and others via personal breathalyzers in
general.
